Think this will ever drop again? I should got them on Black Friday $89 each ūüė≠
Does anyone know if these have some kind of stand-by or low power mode?
When is this dropping again tho? 531 requests on 6/10/17.
I have had a pair of these on my desk for a couple of years, now, and love them. A lot. Every day. If you are putting them on a desk, skip the foam pads and go for IsoAcoustics stands. Those stands take the JBLs to a whole other level. It really is worth the additional $100. Bass is better defined, and imaging and clarity which are already great step up a couple of notches. The 305s are much better monitors than their price indicates; treat them that way and they will reward you.
Oh, and they work just as well if not better in a traditional hifi setup than nearfield. Just make sure the room is not too large or overdamped. In my medium size living room, I've heard these JBLs do things with imaging that my big hifi rig can't.
I use 1/4" TRS to RCA adapters with 2m RCA interconnects from my DAC, and the performance is flawless. No hiss, interference, or the like.

Reduce volume on your LSR305 and raise your source/preamp volume?
Previous post says he used an adapter for the large single plug hole (not the 3 prong balanced plug), and used RCA cables (those that you find on older tv's, before HDMI and display port came about) to receive signal from his digital to analog converter (DAC). You need a DAC if not using earphone plug from your device (be it PC, TV, etc)
Sure! Google "Monoprice 1/4in (6.35mm) TRS Stereo Plug to RCA Jack Adapter, Gold Plated" and you can score a pair for about $0.80 plus shipping. Add to it a pair of RCA interconnects -- Monoprice is a good source for basic ones like "Monolith by Monoprice 3ft RCA Cable" -- and you are in business. (You would need to order two of these.) I ordered my interconnects from Emotiva and do like them. Just make sure that the interconnects are two completely separate ones rather than a pair fused together.
Now, I'm going to blow your mind. If I put my ear an inch from the tweeter, I can hear a tiny bit of amplifier hiss. Interestingly, I hear more hiss on the speaker where I am using an extension cord with the included power cord. If I switch to my premium power cord that made clear improvements to my DAC, the hiss is more audible and more complex. Cables do matter! If I plug the speaker directly into the wall or into one particular power strip, the hiss is louder and more complex. If I plug into another power strip, it's much better. HOWEVER, none of it is perceptible as far as I can tell at this point for anything like normal listening. You might have a hissy speaker, or you might just have a grungy power supply or power strip, or both. You should experiment a bit and maybe try an inexpensive power conditioner intended for audio that you can return if it doesn't help. Or you could listen to another pair at a pro audio outlet near you -- take your current ones with you for comparison -- and sell the ones you have if they are fundamentally flawed. Good luck taming that hiss!
Still waiting...
ADM996
Same. I got one of two over a month ago, but no sign of the second one. No response or updates from support either.
Teon
Oh, I'm actually waiting for another drop. Haha
I'd just keep bugging customer service if I were you.
Can't wait for these to drop again. Anyone have an est. date?
JBL SOUND GREAT FOR 5'. A little to much bass for mixing, but great for listening to end product. I LIKE YAMAHA for critical.
Still no sign of my 2nd monitor, and no response from Massdrop support after 3 separate messages over the last few weeks. Not impressed.
Has anyone not received their monitors from last drop? I only received one, and it's getting increasingly frustrating dealing with customer support.
yupyupno
I have only received one of two, and support hasn't replied to my messages at all.... not too pleased right now.
Teon
They replied to me after a 3 day wait, and they said they would send the 2nd monitor. They said I would receive an email when the monitor shipped, but haven't received it. No ETA either. I don't think I'll use massdrop again.
Anyone know what these dropped for last time? And what was US shipping?
Ping41
Last drop ended on February 19, 2017. Shipping in US was $15.25 for one monitor, $23.50 for a pair.
I'm kicking myself for not buying this when it dropped. Now I need 5 more to complete my surround system :(
Well this is just fantastic.. Purchased 2, but only received ONE...
dieukeee
both mine came in. maybe the shipping service screwed up?
Traaaaan
2nd one came today. Had a different tracking number on it too. Not sure why I didn't receive the tracking for the 2nd one. But happy to say i got what i paid for.
Come baaaaack.
Does anybody know if when you order two of these, they come packaged in one big box with the boxes of the speakers inside or just the boxes of the two speakers?

thank you for your answer!
yeah, same, I could've saved even more money that way. Anyways, thank you for answer!.
Are these the same speakers form Z review's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOySstGCMRg?

Thank you
ashmac
yes
Got a pair thru ebay for $218 with no CA tax and free shipping. They are superb speakers though I have one complaint about the ground loop issue kicking in. I am using a DAC and I experience humming on both the speakers. The problem isn't there with a portable audio source - iPhone etc.

Are you using balanced outputs from your interface? Unbalanced means the signal can experience interference from nearby electrical sources. If your interface doesn't support balanced outputs, that's the most likely source of the humming.
Renaissance
Yes, I am using unbalanced input to the speaker. I don't have two balanced output source so I am using a TRS splitter to dual TS. I am not saying that these are the problem with the speakers just mentioning to potential buyers that would need to be aware.
no shipping in Canada ? Why???????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do they ship to New Zealand ???
Simplysqueezed
use Youshop which is NZ Post
Looking at the picture of the rear of the speakers, they will work 240 volts and use standard jug/iec computer power cable. So why not ship overseas? We feel we are missing out.
If I pair this with a iFi Micro iDSD Black Label will I have to control the volume using the knob on the back of each speaker?
Rochambeaux
http://ifi-audio.com/portfolio-view/micro-idsd-bl/ No, you can use iFi Micro iDsd as preamp(select button at bottom of unit) controlling speaker's volume using iFi volume knob
I¬īll be glad to join the drop
do they have any warranty?
10 lbs WITH the amp built in...there's no way you are getting remotely hi-fi sound out of these. Sadly, I don't really have a valid alternative at the $200/pr price range. I have a pair of $300/pr Chane A1.4 which get raved about, and even those I think are far away from hi-fi.

You don't want want amazing hifi sound to create or mix/master music. Otherwise your end result will sound great through those speakers, and those speakers only. It will generally sound bad on any other non-hifi sound system (aka the sound setups that 99% of people use). That's why producers and audio engineers use completely neutral, uncolored speakers: it's honest sound. You don't buy monitors for hifi sound lol
what are you criticizing
Anyone know how these compare to the ELAC Debut Line? I already have a set of B5's and B6's, need to find a set for another location. Still not sure how I feel about powered speakers though.
saaltonen
Have not used the ELACs. There's an interesting review of the JBL's on noaudiophile.com, that explains the waveguide in practical terms. I do think that powered speakers are the way to go these days. The properly matched power source from JBL Pro includes considering the load of the speakers as well as the frequency response. If you're looking for something really neutral, check out the Vanatoo One's. Overall, a very clean, studio quality natural sound for a really nice price.

I don't doubt it, I actually read the review on noaudiophile.com. I like his reviews for the most part, perhaps a little overly critical, but helpful nonetheless. JBL obviously knows what they are doing, I just can't get past the look personally, they look like a much cheaper speaker. Now that probably means their entire budget went to the internals, but I'd like to see a little improvement with regards to the materials. I don't need them to be showpieces, just saying though.
Would I be fine hooking these up to my Hifiman EF2A dac/amp? Also does this come with two of them?

The price is great. There 149$ just to get local. You can't find a better deal. I would use them on a DAC. The sound on them is better the even the bigger speakers like m-audio.
strootg
Don't push them to much with the amp. Just use the dac more if you can. You will love them how clear they sound. I did a test at Guitar Center and they sound good with my xduoo xd-05 dac/amp.
JBL LSR310S 10-inch Powered Studio Sub-woofer would be a great match as its part of the LSR series
Load 2 more comments
I am not sure there is, but it would indeed be a nice Package deal to offer 2ea. JBL LSR305 or LSR308 with JBL LSR310S Sub-Woofer as this would be a normal setup for a great listeners experience at a affordable price ")
youngjack
I have it as well and love it. Great for producing as well as watching movies and playing games. That 112db at 20hz shakes the floor when watching action movies. Thumbs up to jbl for this awesome series.
My first big speaker purchase! A little of a novice here: if I wanted to hook these up to my computer, could I get a TS to RCA cable to connect two LSR305's to my Schiit Modi 2 so I can use them with my computer? Should I be worried about noise with balanced and unbalanced inputs? Also should I get a preamp?

I have two sets of these and both are being run unbalanced and I don't have any issues with interference or static at all. They are fairly short cable runs (10ft) though. Saying that these NEED a balanced source is nonsense in my experience. I have one set running through a Grace m9xx headphone amp and the other through a Yamaha 640VX home theater amplifier. Both sets are using RCA cables with an RCA to TS adapter. No issues with either setup. I'm not sure if the Schiit Modi 2 has line outs or pre outs so the volume adjustment may be an issue.
speakerguy123
balanced 100%
If I wanted to hook these up to a Sub (I will link below) would I just be able to go from computer to dac, dac to sub and then sub to speakers?

The DAC was going to be the Schiit modi-2
Ghostrider
Yeah, I wouldn't plug the speakers into a power strip then, people have found they get a lot of noise without a ground loop isolator or just going straight to the wall with them. It will work fine with your DAC, I'm not sure how much it will/won't distort, but you should be fine.
limited to US? damn.
Got these on the last drop, ditto on good buy @ $100/ea.
Unlike what others have said, I view the bass range as adequate (i.e. my neighbors complained). Nothing super low frequency but the sound is definitely meaty across the fully range.
Does not have the hard kick like some other systems do but they're simply not for that.
Listening to rock it sounds like they're playing in front of you.
