These are not worth your money. I joined the last drop and got Sierra Granite and Mojave for my mom and myself. I intended to give my mom whichever scent she preferred for mother's day, electing to take the other one myself. I smelled both of them with my mom and both of our faces turned kind of sour - as if we were smelling skunk.
My mom reluctantly took the Mojave as the lesser of the two evils, although she has yet to use it even once. I've used my Sierra Granite a few times but honestly plan on throwing it out - the scent is over-the-top nature-y to the point where it's almost a little gross. Furthermore, my nice wooden top detached from teh actual plastic top after the second use of the body wash.
Would not recommend this product to anyone, except for my friends who I know are trying to smell bad.
Kyle1I think you have to come to this knowing what to expect. These smell pretty much like the outdoors - evergreen trees and other plants blended to reflect their regions. It's not really a perfume.
Some folks love the smell of the outdoors - genuine pitches and oils. But, yes, sometimes it can verge on being overpowering.
So keep in mind, these don't smell floral, spicy, or perfumy. They pretty much smell like real evergreen trees. Which a lot of people love.
It important to know that coming in.
K.T.NWell put! I'd agree. About 85-95% of the people at my office that have tried this stuff love it. Some people prefer a more synthetic scent, and that's fine - to each their own. These smell like real things, because they are real things :)
LOL, I think you got it half right.
There is hipsterism going on here, but It's BECAUSE of the scent, not regardless of the scent.
This particular hipsterism is better known as Lumbersexuality (think full beards and flannel), and these scents cater to this scene. Outdoor pitches and oils and whatnot.
That said, these soaps do make the morning bath invigorating. No, the soap scents do not last long on the body, so they're more for the enjoyment of the user and whoever may be around immediately after use.
If you want a longer lasting scent, yes, you'll want the cologne or the balm. It's worth a try if you like a woodsy smell, hipster or not.
Since I've been experimenting with JR's core products for a while, I figured I would give a quick rundown of how I interpret their core scents. All in all, I think the scent profiles we have on the description page are accurate. Here's my take (just how they smell to me, totally subjective):
Siskiyou and Cascade Glacier: these are definitely similar, but still distinct. Both are light, fresh, pine-based scents. Since I grew up in this area of the world, these are smells I love. The Cascade is a bit more of a 'cold' smell, like a Christmas tree lot, and the Siskiyou is a bit warmer, like a sunny autumn hike in the cedar woods.
Mojave: this one is totally different, and is probably my favorite (scent-related memories aside). Very spicy, almost like cinnamon, and super dry and airy. Seriously, it's like I can hear the grasshoppers in the desert with this one.
Sierra Granite: still a bit of cedar, but not as much as Siskiyou or Cascade. Still a light airy scent, but to me it's more complex and less pine-forward. It's a forest, but a different forest, ya dig?
Big Sur: to me, this is the richest one, much more earthy and vegetal. Complex, salty coastal smells, really nice. I'm told that this is their biggest seller.
Hope that helps everyone!
HumanBeingYes, but you don't understand. Much like Axe men's grooming products they retain magical attraction abilities. But instead of it working on women it is highly effective on creatures (most notably mating bears and wolves) of the forest from whence these scents were extracted. What's the price of that?
My personal experience based off of the drop a little over 2 months ago: I got Big Sur, Sierra Granite, and Mojave.
Performance as a soap - scents are strong out of the bottle, but easily covered up. This is important if you put on lotion, even unscented. If you want to smell like this soap, you will have to use a whole lot of it. The soap lathers relatively well - about as good as a bar of glycerin-based soap. It won't lather as well as your shower gel or a bar of Dove. At my current rate of use, one bottle will last me about 1.5 months. Finally, in terms of how clean you get - great for daily use. Not very good at getting grease and oil off of you (car maintenance, for example). Moderately good at getting organics off of you (got me nice and clean after hiking, not so much after a full day of cooking)
Big Sur - Dark, old pine, spice, forest floor dirt
Sierra Granite - Effervescent, freshly cut pine, ocean cliff
Mojave - Spice + Disinfectant
Final thoughts - These soaps make your bathroom smell great. They will make you smell pretty good for a few hours afterwards, though don't expect the staying power of Axe or Old Spice. I actually like Mojave the best out of the three, even though it smells like disinfectant to me. If you want to smell like the scents, get the colognes and the sprays etc. Also, keep a stronger soap for dirty days and a smellier soap for party nights.
ApocalypseSteelThanks for the honest thoughts. Based on what I've read here, I'm tempted to try Cascade Glacier. But since the soap scent won't last long, I'm planning to get the same scented cologne to complement this soap next time that cologne drop comes again. But too bad Juniper Ridge doesn't carry Cascade Glacier in their cologne line. I hope someone from Juniper Ridge is reading this and have plans to add that in their product line someday.
rsaeksGood question! After you make your first selection, click 'add another selection' below it and you can make a new choice.
(real talk: I work here and just learned about how this works)
I really hate the Siskiyou scent. I live with two women and they both hate it as well. I've had comments like , "Is someone painting in here?", and "Why do you smell like you've just rolled around on a jungle floor?"
VincentWongHmm, sorry to hear that. Siskiyou is actually the most popular one in our office. I have it in the cabin spray and backpacker's cologne forms and use it all the time. Although I guess your 'jungle floor' isn't that far off, given the list of ingredients!
Here is my short term review of the Juniper Ridge Trail soap Mohave Desert sent :
In a nutshell : its smells like Arab soap except less or no olive oil like creation texture.
Bit longer comment : The sent does not last very long . Sure it will get you thought some what half of the day , but then the effects just wear off. I suggests getting this if your going on a fancy date and the girl happens to be from Vegas.
To the people who are out side of the US and planning on buying this , Dont , it will cost you a expensive penny , better off looking in the region that you live in because border control doesn't screw around ( I live in Finland , a county that's not in the US so my experience is bad and you have to pay the import tax. )
To the 'Murican, Get it. I can not recommend this product more . Your date will go smoother than a american opossum licking a barb wire .
gkstatesAs was I. I didn't expect it to take a full month just to get the shipment to the warehouse. I'd have just ordered it from the website itself instead.
