This fixed lens has a maximum aperture of F/1.1, and is suitable for portrait and landscape photography Read More
Calaverasgrande8I was a kickstarter backer of Sainsonic for the Kamlan 28mm f1.4 first production run.
It's very sharp.
Got to do a video with it but things are pretty busy pre Christmas.
Doesn't have some of the issues of the 50mm the coatings are better and has a different lens group setup.
Still love the character of the 50mm and wonder what the mkii version will be like (and yes I can confirm the 50mm version two is going to be made that info is direct from the maker)
Don't know how the 28mm will adapt to anamorphic... 50mm with wide aperture is easier than 28mm but it may work.
(PS geniune low light close focussing 50mm Cine Anamorphic lens can cost $40,200 USD.)
I got this for my Olympus Pen F a few months ago on Massdrop and I have been VERY pleased
On a recent trip to Japan I decided to shoot Black and White, here's a few pictures I've taken with the lens so far.
I used a few lenses to get some different looks and settled on trying to see what the abilities are of my newest lens from Kamlan, 50mm f1.1. Lens flare on this lens is noticeable, but I don't mind it. Chromatic aberration is also evident on most frames but I'm willing to work with it because I think the lens will have some character that other lenses might not have.
Information about the image is, 25 second exposure, 800 ISO, about f2 (it's a click-less aperture ring). I took about 10 frames before I got this image with nice rim-lighting that lit the "bones" of the bridge nicely I think. All images taken with my Fuji XPro1 in fine, jpeg mode.
I'd really like to get this for my Lumix G85. I know that the G85 is a MFT capable camera, but, I haven't found any reviews that this lens will definitively fit on the Lumix G85.
Can anyone quell my fears that this won't fit? I think it'd be an awesome, fun lens.
valuexecuterThere's some very tallented amatuer photographer s and videographers that just can't afford expensive lenses.
These lenses punch above thier weight for the price.
Fuckssake I was going to buy this one even without the drop, but I missed it :/
For how much did it go on massdrop? Was international shipping available?
viramanNope thats not how it works. 50mm focal length is 50mm no matter what sensor it was designed for. The image circle is smaller since there is no reason for a lens to have an expanded image circle beyond the sensor size. However, the image "zoom" on a FF vs apsc lens is exactly the same.
In theory you can throw this lens on a FF system and just have crazy vignetting. However, save for the vignetting, the image will look the same as a FF 50mm lens.
This lens is a 100mm FF equiv when used on a mft system and a 75mm FF equiv when used on an apsc system. Note all these FF equiv are in terms of FOV
The V2 (which this is not) is a larger, heavier lens. It has a different optical formula which does have more glass than this version.
I have this v1 version, the v2 was only recently crowdfunded on Kickstarter. I'm not sure it's even shipping yet. This v1 lens is a fun lens, but it's known for being soft. The newer, heavier, more expensive v2 lens is supposed to be significantly sharper across the whole frame while still offering the same shallow depth of field.
Here's a shot with the Kamlan f1.1.

Very cinematic on my Panasonic GX85 with my Anamorphic lens mod (forgot to use lens hood), settings are CineD 4k and colour Lut applied in post.
Camera about half meter from subject with background string of tiny leds at about two meters from lens.
Would show even better contrast etc when mounted in Matte box to cut out any light wash etc (this lens is prone to flare so needs a lens hood).
I think it gives a pretty good result considering a geniune low light anamorphic prime costs a small fortune.
Hope to post a anamorphic framed test video in the future, still waiting for custom made focus gear I ordered to fit the Kamlan so I can mount in Mattebox focusing rig.
Note I focused lens on side framed subject.
Kamlan on center focus softens slightly to the edges and when in focus on the side the center image will soften, in my opinion this trait lends itself well to a anamorphic cine look because they do similar fall away.
With video this can be used creatively with closer people shots where you want beautiful bokeh blur just the same in portrait stills of course.
