I'm a little confused by some of the options, and how this is saving us anything.
First, is the rugged version still diamond coated?
Second, why can't we combine multiple add-ons?
I'm not sure exactly what I want...
Actually, it seems like the Rugged version costs MORE on MassDrop than direct from the company...
redmwallNot this particular model. It's under the midnight diamond tab. While they're normally 18-20 depending upon the color. This utilizes a DLC coating to make it more scratch resistant. On amazon they have this listed for 27.00.
Is it really though? $20 for the key smart, but $4.00 if you want to add the 10c bottle opener, $5.00 for the 10c Key Dangler, and $6.00 for the 10c XL Key Dangler??!! how do you build any goodwill by trying to squeeze a few extra cheap bucks with option that they should simply offer for free? It's not a big deal, but the most rudimentary marketing class will teach you that is the absolute wrong approach.
BarryBogaveI thought you were referring to Massdrop providing add-ons, but if you're talking about KeySmart itself, fair point. That the expansion pack (essentially a few washers) costs $6.99 on its own is mind-boggling when the whole setup costs $22.
Just to be clear, the Keysmarts on Amazon come with the expansion pack ($6.99 separately on Amazon and not available here). Do the non-rugged Keysmarts here not come with the expansion pack? What I could really use are 2 Keysmarts, 1 expansion pack, and 1 pocket clip. So unless these come with the expansion, it's really not clear what I should be buying and where.
For anyone interested in buying this, if you also plan on purchasing an expansion pack, be careful, the basic expansion pack doesn't come with extension bars (which makes it pointless in my opinion), you want the one with the bars included.
Aside from that, it's a handy little gadget. I've noticed that it's easier to use by interposing keys, you can store less keys, but that way you can flip the keys out on both sides.
I’ve bought one of these elsewhere and find it to be over rated. It’s sounds like a good idea, but the practice of flipping out a key recessed into it while holding groceries can be an exercise in frustration. I’m seriously thinking of ditching this and just going back to a basic key ring.
Does anyone own the original KS version? It's a smaller size.. I guess this would be their "compact" version in plastic. I really like the size and hand feel, and have put off getting a newer version because I'm not sure I'll like the length. (It could be just what I'm used to.. and, the newer version would be ok after some time.)
