I used to have a cheap Bluetooth one from Amazon that I used with Torque. It got stolen with my car, along with my Android phone. That left me with my iPhone. I looked for an option for iOS. Most are WiFi connectable. This one uses Bluetooth 4.1. I chose this one over the WiFi ones because I planned to take my new car on a track and borrow a GoPro Hero from a friend and those connect over WiFi as well, so I would only be able to use one, whereas here I could use both. I also might go back to Android one day, and if I do, I'm still covered. Also, this thing responds super fast and is low power so can be left in like mentioned above if desired. I paid the $100 on their site and I've had no regrets or worries with it. But mostly I didn't mind paying so much because I've had experience with the cheaper ones and while they worked well enough for most cases, I knew that getting something better overall was worth it to me. If it's not for you and you have an Android phone, stick with a cheap one and don't worry.
