Product Description
The Kizer Kezmec is ready for tough tasks of all kinds. Measuring 8 inches long, it’s armed with a thick 3.5-inch blade made from CPM-S35VN stainless steel, one of the most balanced steels on the commercial market Read More
Some have mentioned the weight. I verified, mine is 5.1 oz (146 g). It uses 4 mm blade stock and it carries the thickness to a very strong point. This is not thin and fragile like the Spyderco PM2 at the tip. The blade is more of a heavy duty grind. Included in a photo I took from above. I have the front on the blades on the wood surface so one is not closer to the camera. My PM2 is on the left and my Kesmec is on the right. This is what I mean about the Kesmec as a heavy duty knife. Note: both blades are symmetrical and well made. I am not sure the photo depicts that.
Hold up.. it has a 3.5" blade but weighs in at 5.3oz.. that's gotta be a typo or this knife is heavy af.
The unwritten rule is an ounce an inch generally speaking. Personally I stay away from any folder over 4oz. But hey if stuffing a brick in your pocket is your thing knock yourself out.. at least this one is a pretty brick.
akapabsDifferent designs are going to be different weights, I think for a knife of this size it is definitely overweight, but only by three quarters of an ounce or so. Internal milling and thinner blade stock would make all the difference, but it isn't that far outside the realm of ordinary for a large all-metal knife with a comfortable handle. I've got a Rike/HX Outdoors ZD-006 that is the same weight and 3.75", it is a substantial knife but it doesn't feel insane.
OmniseedYeah I'm gonna have to pass on this one.. I have plenty of titanium production knives that weigh in more reasonably. Unless it's an overbuilt custom folder.. I'm not gonna tolerate a knife that's over 5oz.. I need my EDC to be light. Fixed blades are a whole other story.. carrying heavier weight on my belt versus weighing my pocket down is very different and personally more acceptable. For EDC I'm mostly looking for 3" blades in the 3 oz range and everyday on massdrop I keep seeing more and more monster blades for office bros that never even use their knives. Hopefully more blades in my EDC range pop up here soon.
Decent buy. Kizer does make quality knives. I own several including some ti framelocks and do like their products. Its a little heavy for my taste for this model but for the premium materials your getting and w factory flame anodize its a nice piece for the price point. Value.
There are Kizer outlets on AliExpress. I bought my T1 there and it's legit, no problems. The Kesmec is $75 right now. Ordering from China isn't for everyone, but for the patient and frugal collector it's a good option.
It's definitely not for everyone, but I've bought some very nice knives from Ali and DHGate. It is a bit of a gamble, but the reputable sellers will take care of you.
I think it's just one of those things man...you definitely need to comparison shop when you see a drop you like, but aside from that, treat it like a bargain bin. You rummage through to find the occasional good deal more and then, but it doesn't stop you from going to another store when you know you're looking for something specific, ya know?
Realistically though, it's only ever going to really be in their best interest to take a hit when they can't move the inventory fast enough another way at retail pricing.
It's not in those companies' best interest to take the hit, though. That's the thing you're missing. This isn't the place for more sought after models, because they're sought after, so they don't need to take the hit on them. They won't increase profits by selling here, so why would they sell here?
Looks like a nice solid knife. This is appears to be a typical standard offering from Kizer, which is to say it’s all good. Good reviews on YouTube. I have several Kizer knives with near identical specs, so I’m not rushing for this one, but I will think about it :)
Thank you for the photos: nice selection! Your knives get outside more than mine! That may be because where I call home is desolate this time of year...and healthy knives need sunshine!
