I suggest you watch the YouTube review of this knife by Nick Shabazz before you make a decision on purchasing. Apparently, the flipping action sucks, the hardware sucks, the bearings suck, and the blade positioning within the scales can cut you.

O wow it takes so much skill to sharpen a knife lol and with your attitude I'm surprised you have any customers you're a snob that thinks because he's posted some shit online and he can sharpen a knife he's awesome your far from it tens of thousands of people can do if not more and yes they can get a mirror polished and a hair whittling edge yourre not special mate nice try though

I might not be able to spell everything correctly but I am not a native speaker, so I don't worry about it too much since I can deliver my point with ease.
Making lots of posts doesn't make them good or smart posts, quallity isn't measured by quantity.
You might discover as well that being a "proffesional sharpener" doesn't take too much skill, I am not one, but I sure am able to put a razor sharp, mirror edge on any knife.
Last thing to mention, no one is my hero, I rely on my own opinion and knowledge, though I do like hearing someone elses opinion since it gives me another perspective, for good or for bad. The one that feals sorry for someone here is me, I don't know where did you get so much hate from, and really think that what you said in the first place isn't correct as a fact not as my opinion. Let's dont act childishly, best regards and have a good day.

This knife is extremely difficult to open, and requires a tremendous amount of force. I need to stop playing with it for now to avoid brusing the pads of my fingers. Other than that it seems nice so far.

Im a bit late to this but applying pressure to the handle would probably be forcing the detent in, making it harder to open. I have a knife that flips fine but if it press on the frame lock it becomes a lot more difficult.

storrycityI am still actively trying to play with it to see if it ever "breaks in". However I am currently taking a break for my finger to feel less sore, and my friend broke a nail opening it yesterday. I am considering asking massdrop if they have any left in their warehouse for me to exchange it.
It's like I literally cannot open then knife while holding it.

Gotta wonder if Nick's none-to-gentle review had an impact. I was thinking about this knife, but I bought the Kizer 4448 in April. Titanium frame with G10, and S35 blade steel. It took some work on the edge, but otherwise has proven to be an excellent EDC. I do like the blade geometry on this knife, but the 4448 is solid as a rock in every other respect. Think I'm going to pass.

mring1I bought that knife as well and I am having the same debate. Plus I am a little short on funds and trying to get passed the nagging guilt of, "do I really need another knife"...LOL. The one from April is fantastic and I am sold on the company because of it. This just looks like such a great deal, it's very hard to pass up. Even with the 35% exchange rate to Canada and the low shipping cost. Stupid Massdrop for selling stuff like this to us weak minded fools.

mring1There are other reviews than Shabazz on youtube. ,personally, I find his voice so grating I can't finish them; listening to a munchkin from the Wizard of Oz drives me to distraction.

s35VN, titanium handles, okay knife company. At this price the knife is a gem. Did massdrop make a mistake on the price?

Peterock36Kizer has been selling some of their knives for ridiculously good prices on massdrop lately. Probably some of the stand out deals (imo at least) lately.

A couple of comments about the Velox 2 for those struggling to get good flipping action. I've had one for quite a while and have never had a problem flipping it. I think you might be able to solve your problem by changing technique.
Make absolutely certain that you're not applying any pressure to the lockbar while trying to flip open the knife. I can imagine if you're expecting undue force from your finger to deploy, you're probably white-knuckling the knife. One of the challenges of smaller flippers is avoiding pressure on the lock bar while opening. The Velox 2 has such a strong detent, it'll be practically impossible to deploy if you're pressing on the frame lock. Try adjusting your grip and relaxing it a bit at the same time. The pocket clip straddles the lock bar and the stationary portion of the frame on the lock side. Try to use the clip as a guide in finger placement. If you stay on or dorsal to the clip, you should be off the lock bar.
Also the Velox 2 requires a "push button" action to flip. Most flippers are "light switch" action; in other words, you rapidly draw your finger from the pivot end to the butt of the knife, engaging the flipper tab as you move over it. This technique doesn't work that well on the Velox 2. You want to place your finger directly on the flipper tab, take a brief moment to build up a little force and then push sharply downward, directly toward the pivot. This technique fits better with the shape of the flipper tab anyway.
If you try these two things, you might find your satisfaction with the Velox improves. It's a great little knife. As some others have said, I think I prefer the Gemini but the Velox 2 at this price is a steal!

Definitely bad QC. I was 80% sure before, but after you compared it to kwaiken, I'm 100% sure. I've got a kwaiken that opens like a dream and I cannot for the life of me get the Velox 2 to open. A friend of mine got the knife and had issues, so we passed it around the room seeing who could open it and if we could find any tricks to it. One friend managed to open it two or three times in a row, but badly broke the fingernail on his index finger in the process. Unfortunate, but to me that also means his technique wasn't really safe. Three of us have the mirror finish kwaiken also, and we all open that just fine, in fact we all carry it daily and flip it like crazy. If it opened even slightly similarly, it'd be easy for us.

I cannot disagree with your comparison to the Kwaiken more strongly. I own two Kwaikens, and they are a joy to use. The action on them is easy and makes sense. This Velox 2, is very pretty, but it is practically useless to me. I cannot open the knife when comfortably holding it. I have to baby it, or use some weird uncomfortable grip as described in the giant paragraph above. My Velox 2 has literally bruised my finger more than once now. Something my kwaiken did not do after tens of hours of flipping.

If the smaller Spyderco Paramilitary is called the Para, will the smaller version of this be called the Vag?

JherbzIt's the dude's name who designed it, Mike Vagnino; the Velox is one of his custom models. I own another of his custom models, and let me tell you, it seriously kills your swagger when multiple people check out your just-shy of a grand custom knife and say, "oh yeah, an ELIMINATOR! by...Mike VAJ-nino; Ive heard of him." "Uh...yeah...he's, uh, he's gotsomerealnicedesigns...Hey! Check out my STRIDER! YEAH! That shit's tough as nails!"

Mine might be better than average, but I've never seen someone else's review say anything that really contradicts my feelings about it. It's smooth, like the lockbar is extremely well tuned and the pivot is killer for a Kizer, and I think if the design speaks to you this is one of the models that might be worth modifying. If I were in a better place financially I would without a doubt send it to someone to mill out the internals and then to BladesWeLove. But I can't go buying hundreds of dollars in mods to simply lighten a knife that carries well enough in most pants, so I just carry it with jeans or what have you. I'm stacking up Kizers too, they're hard to sell because they're so decent and the resale isn't very high, so I end up just keeping them all.

OmniseedI love Kizers and also own several g10 models. Great value knives overall. As far as the ti models ive sent out a zt for custom ano to the tune of about $50 after round trip shipping included so i have been building an inexpensive anodize setup that will go up to 90 volts DC or so to do all colors. The process is fairly simple from what I have researched and i have 85% of the stuff just need to set aside a little time to get the rest and start trying it out. I bought the Kizer river cat specifically with a 2 tone ano job in mind on those crazy swirly milled handles. As far as milling out the liners/scales etc i have considered it on several of my knives and may try it one day as i like tinkering and customizing them but even heavily skelotonized liners might shave less than a half ounce at best but some knives that makes or breaks it for me if its 5 oz vs 4.5oz it is noticable in pocket so id Still like to try it.

Playing with my Vag today, a little tight, but if you just put your finger in the right place, it'll pop every time... I can understand some of Nick's complaints tho... the tolerances are really critical. There is only about 50-100µm between the blade and scale on one side, and when I close it I hear a little swish of metal scraping metal. I can't figure out exactly where it is scraping. Action is perfect otherwise.
The base of the blade is really close to being exposed when the knife is closed. However, I pressed moderately and rubbed my finger and I was not able to cut myself or even feel a point. I don't really see how that would cause any problem for me in regular use.
I haven't taken it apart to see how bad the screws are (usually I only give cheap knives the "spa treatment" when I first get them), but they did include two extra small silver screws in the box for whatever reason (they're not the ones with the issues?).
Overall I'm happy with the knife for the price and there's nothing about it that would keep me from using it. I like the design. The blade needed to be 0.5mm thinner so it doesn't get so close to the scales, and they should tweak the base so it's not right up against the edge.
EDIT: I tried taking it apart and tightening it back up, no problems. No threadlocker that I could find. Tightening up the pivot also got rid of the scrape and perfectly centered the blade between the scales. Nice!
awkYou beat me to it.... Like 5 wks ago, but I just saw this drop.
Well someone had to do it.
