Lol. Another Massdrop drop that isn't a deal. This site is going down hill.
This is a nice ENTRY level setup for your PC or whatever you want to plug it into. ENTRY!!! But not at this price. Wait for it to go on sale at Best Buy.

Sight up says entry level 2.1 is 500-1000 dollars, what a laugh!!! And the famed klipsch 2.1 setup he says is entry level AGAIN incorrectly: "This are entry. Given, entry is an ambiguous term. But suffice it to say, a person with any kind of income, this shouldn't be looked at. This is true no matter how you choose to look at it and despite how many or how few setups that Klipsch has to offer. This is something a person ignorant on the subject of speakers, like a mom gets their 13 year old who plays Minecraft on their LED ridden PC, would purchase."
Obvious troll is obvious, just trying to insult anyone spending less than 500, if you want to overspend that much on entry level you certainly dont need to use massdrop. Meanwhile Klipsch 2.1 speakers are still quite good for many music types and are definitely above entry level 2.1 speakers. All this being sort of irrelevant to the original confusion of why certain things go on sale on massdrop at certain prices, and seeing how much sightup has gone troll mode on telfire I'd assume he isnt trying to understand.

This is a bad deal here, but I've bought two of these--only to gift them to friends when I jumped to spending $1k+ on a PC audio overhaul... They're pretty damn amazing and will not disappoint for everyday audio.

I don't know why you guys seem to think this is a bad deal. New Egg currently has it listed at $150, Amazon $150, Best Buy $180. Nowhere, at the time of the drop, had it for cheaper than $150. Except Massdrop. Maybe it's not quite a steal of a deal, but cheaper than anywhere else is still a deal. Just because, at one point, you got lucky and bought it on sale for cheaper than that or perhaps 3 some years ago (in which case your price isn't even relevant to today's price) you bought it for cheaper doesn't mean this isn't a good deal. Get off your freaking high horses.
It is true that, yes, sometimes Massdrop deals aren't that great compared to Amazon or others, but this is not one of those times.

Pretty sure there are two versions of the Pro Media 2.1 - the old, original set, and the newer one where Klipsch switched the OEM. Apparently the older ones are MUCH better, and is where their stellar reputation comes from. The newer ones are cheaper and worse sounding according to reviews.
I'm not saying that they're a bad deal at $119.99 even if they're not as good as the original set, but just take those testimonials where people owned them for 5-10 years with a grain of salt because they probably own the original version and will not be representative of what you'll get.
Here's a forum thread with pics that shows you the difference: https://hardforum.com/threads/klipsch-promedia-2-1-two-sets-older-heavier-new-lighter-sub-amp.1605026/

DoctorXAudiovox bought Klipsch in 2011 so the potential lower quality may have been a result of this buyout. I do not recall Audiovox making products of any significant quality. :-/

Odd flaw in mine. The left and right channels are swapped if you wire it properly. I just reversed the wiring. Wreaks hell on my ocd, though. Not sure what's going on there as none of my other speakers have that issue.

Prisoner416Mine too! Edit: This won't do at all. I can just reverse how I plug the speakers into the subwoofer, but it's still reversed when I plug in headphones. This is unacceptable.

lew_stoolsWait, you mean it's still reversed with headphones when wired the other way? That makes no sense. Thankfully if I just headphones I just use the front jacks on my pc.

Great speakers though the mids get drowned out by the insanely loud bass. I would recommend buying a pair used on eBay if you're trying to penny pinch and then replacing the stock satellites with Tang Band W3-881SJ to bring out the mids and enhance crispness/resolution/vocal/musical clarity. The stock Klipsch sub-woofer is fine and can also be replaced by a Tang Band sub-woofer but it will be quite expensive around $90 and it will not be tuned 100% to the original Klipsch subwoofer box. I have not swapped out my stock Klispch sub-woofer for the Tang Band but from what I have read it is very much more boomier than the stock sub-woofer and can almost be pretty much directly dropped into the sub-woofer box. That will be a decision you will have to decide if it's worth it. My decision was that the stock sub-woofer is already good enough and there is no reason to spend $90 for an upgrade into an un-tuned box for that sub-woofer.
The Tang Band W3-881SJ satellite upgrade is worth it IMO. I paid about $1 65 total as I caught the Klipsch 2.1 @$119.99 and Tang Band W3-881SJ on sale @$18 each. Overall I'm still happy with my Klipsch 2.1 system with upgraded satellites over the Swan M10s. The Logitech Z623 IMO is not worth looking at as the Swan M10s and Klipsch are a much better choice with the Swan M10s lacking in bass but much better clarity and resolution than the stock Klipsch 2.1 system. The Klipsch 2.1 system has better bass so if you listen to bass heavy music you will not be impressed with the Swans.
If I had to do it all over again I would still choose the Klipsch 2.1 with upgraded Tang Band satellites. It just doesn't get any better than this under $200. The Swan M10s are nice but I hated when the bass did not thump when playing through my bass test play list on Spotify. I'm sure others will point out that there are bookshelf speaker setups that are cheaper than this but they take up more space. I guess that's something you'll have to consider as you go to bookshelf speakers, more expensive subwoofers, and near field setups it'll cost you even more money it's out of the scope of this offering.
And then there's the criticism from others that the older 2007 models and before were way better. From what others have said there isn't that much of a difference in sound quality and that the older model might have a little more boom to it. And then there's the detachable cables not currently offered on the newer model which can be modified yourself with a little work.
My comparison of the Klipsch 2.1 and Swan M10 copy and pasted from the Swan M10 discussion: Klipsch Promedia 2.1 Pros: - Excellent bass, you can adjust to how much bass you want to shake your room (I keep mine at 9-10 o'clock position) - 2 x 3.5mm side jacks on satellite for connecting portable audio player or connecting headphones - THX Certified (if that matters) - Overall good sound quality - Good build quality Cons: - Slightly less clarity than M10 - Some piano acoustics seem muffled or lower volume in some songs (maybe due to bad recording), tested on Adele's Hello track in FLAC format and had to turn the music up a tiny bit so I can hear the piano in the beginning - Guitar picking in some songs not as crisp as it would come through a headphone like SHP-9500 - BestBuy's display model had static crackling when adjusting the volume knob, mine had no static problems when tested (they actually sell a replacement control pod made by SummitLink if your pod eventually breaks) - Mostly limited to distribution to BestBuy only, buying online would cost much more
Swan M10 Pros: - Good clarity and crispness - Nice mid and highs - Optional color scheme with white with the metal shiny flakes - Looks good Cons: - Very weak bass compared to the Promedia - Satellite cables are not shielded so they are prone to radio signal interference - Poor quality control (my left satellite has 3 pits in it, the excess plastic was not shaven off properly off around the speaker area) - Blue LED lighting on the volume knob is annoying to some people - No connections to connect a portable media player or connect headphones to - Plastic housing for M10 satellites felt cheap and they were very light

Honestly, I can really use your help on potential fixing of my old set.
I have the 5.1 set, the speakers themselves are fine, but the subwoofer doesn't work any longer. When I last used it, it gave very little bass, almost like it wasn't getting enough power to the driver. I held onto the whole set, since it cost me so much when I bought it. I'm very interested in trying to replace it. If this kinda problem is something similar you ran into, I'd appreciate any pointers in the direction I should go with them.

I owned a set of these 15 years ago when they were the best $150 computer speakers on the market. The bass was a little boomy back then but I've read that the bass unit has been improved a lot over the years and if so they'd make a great choice for gaming or even music computer speakers. The downside is that because the satellites are so small they have a very high crossover frequency (the point of transition of the sound source from the bass unit to the satellites and back) and as a result you'll hear a shift in the source. Even so these will still make someone great computer gaming speakers and pop/rock music computer speakers and are a real bargain at $120. Audiophiles with a lot more money would probably happier with KRK Rokit 6G3 ($300/pr) or JBL LSR305 ($260/pr) studio monitors.

Will I still need the Soundblaster if I have a dac and amp? What's a good subwoofer to go with the JBLs? Something that really kicks

Avey2017That all depends on your DAC. If your DAC has a subwoofer-out then pretty much any sub will work. If not you'll need one of the few subs designed to work with powered speakers. That means that sub with have both RCA (or 1/4") line-in and RCA (or 1/4") line-out ports. I've included a photo with the ports that you'll need. TRS is just a 1/4" jack like you probably have on your DAC. Note, I have never heard this sub and the reviews are mixed. You might be better off with a budget 2.1 or 5.1 sound card (internal or external).
As for what else you'll need to connect the JBLs to your DAC/amp you'll need a cable(s) to adapt the output (3.5mm, 1/4", or RCA outputs) to the 1/4" TRS jacks on the speakers.

Sub choice will depend on how you plan to use this setup and if you have a subwoofer port on your DAC. If you are filling a small living room the BIC F12 ($220) is kind of the gold standard for cheapy subs but it's a bit big to put next to a desk and it requires a subwoofer output on your DAC.
