Walmart is Out of Stock on the Proprietary Butane fuel canisters needed. This is great if You already own and use this style of fuel cannister, not so if this is the only device to use them. It would be nice for Kovea to show what the flame style this torch produces look s like. I'll have to pass. A $5 lighter from the dollar store refills readily from widely available butane fuels from Roson and others. It is the inconvenient to have to pack such a large item that requires a full size fuel cannister. This product seems better suited for RV'ers, or home use, rather than Backpacking.

GotLumensIt looks like only the 12-pack is out of stock. The single cans are currently available. https://www.walmart.com/ip/STERNO-50130-Fuel-Cartridge/180917381? REI is out of stock, but their page has 2 good pictures of the flame produced. https://www.rei.com/product/143164/kovea-fire-z-torch

GotLumensIf you can't find the butane canisters at Wal Mart, try checking a hardware store's plumbing department. Chances are you'll find them there as well and from personal experience it's usually cheaper.

Just a warning that if you live at, or intend to use this at elevation (7K+), it likely will not ignite via the built in piezo. I just got one ($15 at REI), knowing that this was a possibility and can confirm that it is in fact true. It will ignite by way of an outside flame source though.

To clarify, this doesn’t use isobutane canisters like MSR, Primus? Is it similar to the snow peak gigatorch

I've had a Kovea Cyclone torch head for over 4 years. Has been ignited thousands times by now and haven't had any issues.

This type of torch works ok, but as others have mentioned if you want something reliable and strong enough for any task just go get a ts8000 from Home Depot. It is more expensive of course.
I have an iwatani similar to this one and one problem with this style is that the piezo ignition wire that it uses to generate the spark is directly exposed to the flame. either the resulting soot or the heat distempering causes the wire to eventually become unreliable when hot.
The ts8000 and all its ilk have some sort of enclosed spark mechanism which seems somehow more reliable. (their primary use is for plumbing and I don’t think an unreliable torch would go over well with plumbers)

Does anyone understand the 360 degree rotation feature? When mounted the head of my torch does not rotate at all. Not a big deal but just curious what was intended.

What I could really use is a flame thrower.

Kind of my point. People make these polls that I think are serious but MD is not going to ever get an FFL in arguably the most restrictive state in the Union just to sell a few firearms in the US. Some things just are not going to fly here even if legal. So you have to wonder when people are serious or not.

Stupid question, would this work with the fuel canisters I use for my backpacking stove? I'm dreaming of that backcountry brulee

EZ_livingNope, but any Bernzomatic from the TS8000, TS4000, WT2301, WT2301C, TS3500, or UL2317 should work (thats in order of descending price, from $40 to $14) will work with the 1 pound propane canisters typical to camping. If the weight isn't a problem, the TS8000 is definitely the one to get. It's vastly more powerful, has all the features and is built like a tank. Should be a buy it for life kinda thing.

AngryAccountantNot sure why people keep bringing up the Bernzomatics. They're a different kind of torch. This one is an improved version of the really cheapy butane torches ala Harbor Feight: https://www.harborfreight.com/butane-micro-torch-63170.html The Bernzomatics burn propane and/or MAPP gas and are made for brazing (the soldering/welding kind not the cooking kind). My oxy/acetylene torch burns hotter than both of these put together but that's not really relevant here.
This is a bit bigger and better made than the HF one yet still relatively compact and light. Berzomatics are ungainly and overkill for this use case. The torch in this drop is better suited for this purpose.
