Sugar_FreeThe problem with current OLED tech is it's prone to image retention. Most TVs have images that change fairly often, so it's not an issue for them (except for the occasional game HUD / channel logo). However, monitors have areas that are fairly static (menu bars, title bars, etc) which would lead to issues.
FaithForHumansI think that's no longer an issue anymore. Most smartphones with OLED displays doesn't burn in as easy as they did before and Alienware claims they fixed that issue with their laptops that use OLED panels.
Sugar_FreeAll of my OLED phones have had some form of burn-in. Typically the Home/Back/Swap buttons that are typically always present and the notification bar. Definitely not a deal breaker because it really only shows up on all white and if I'm looking for the spots.
If I wanted to correct it I could with the grey/white image burn-in but I don't mind it enough to care.
Zaf9670Yee, it still happens but the burn in has really improved over the years. Some manufactures are now doing small tricks like moving the navigation bar around to prevent further burn in. (Galaxy S8 does this)
FaithForHumansI have last years OLED 55C6P and I've had no problems with image retention. First of all it has a screen saver that automatically goes after 2 min and there's also options in the picture mode settings that are supposed to address the issue. I've had my TV for over 6 months with zero image retention.
BohefusI've got the 55B6P and haven't really had any issues either. But it's still something to watch out for. The screen saver doesn't go any good when you pause a game and walk away for hours or leave channels with static banners / watermarks on all of the time.
FaithForHumans agreed, it is something to watch out for and to try to avoid. Better off powering off the TV if you pause a show or game for any length of time. Sometimes the screen saver doesn't automatically start for some reason.
BohefusOut of curiosity, when have you had yours not start? The only time I haven't seen mine start is when it's connected to something via HDMI, but the TV has no way to really tell if it should start the screen saver. Every time I'm using an app it starts the screen saver a minute or two after I hit pause.
