I have witnessed this very buggy running at my RC indoor off road track. It is an amazingly strong little performer, very quick with lots of speed. It really does look like a miniature of the big 1/8 scalers. But, I don't think I've ever seen them run for long. They do not seem to hold up to the rigors of track running(Indoor off road is very unforgiving anyway), I doubt they would hold up to a lot of bashing either unless your skills are good.

it depends on how experienced the kid is with RC cars and where you expect the car to run. This is a little fun car can be great fun to those experienced RC drivers when running on designated tracks. For a first-timer with intention to bash around on dirt or rocky ground, there are other alternatives that can be had for lower price and would be more durable than this one. There are quite a few review videos on this buggy on YouTube and this is a pretty good one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgocHy7nuzA

I dont have this car, but have other Losi 1/14th scale cars. The good is they are smaller then the 1/10th so you dont need as much space with them. The bad is that the smaller parts are generally not as robust and a bit harder to work on (being smaller). The good is the cars dont weigh mush so you dont have as much mass when crashing into things.
So it could be good or bad? Sorry not much help.

Anyone with experience with this model? How would it be for a 10 year old's first car? Thanks

Basically you can upgrade nearly everything on the losi just like on the 8 scale big brother losi8. Once you lipo battery with brushless motor its insanely fast. Check www.asiatees.com also other sites but endless upgrades until of course you've upgraded everything. Top pro model in my opinion
