Is this "titaner" a copy of the real thing and presumably of lower quality? I'm confused.

They are all a stock design that various companies are indeed rebranding/tweaking. That is a fact. The fact that they all have the exact same body/clip/sleeve design, et cetera, is fact.
And there is NOTHING wrong with that, at all. That fact does not matter. Nor does it necessarily, in itself, undermine the quality of the pen.
Trying to mask that fact is not right though. (Saying that they are "different pens entirely" is also obviously not true. )
So I am afraid you are mislead, or willfully misleading people yourself.

ironhelixxThe LYPEN can fit a fucking fuckton of refills, while others can not. It uses the same design (obvious) but has an additional feature that (imo) is the main appeal of this pen and the main reason I would consider buying it. I consider 99% of tactical pens to be ugly and gimmicky. This one is actually sorta cool.

Looks like an overpriced copy of this, without the utility of having a replaceable touch screen stylus:
https://bigidesign.com/collections/pens/products/titanium-ballpoint-pen-stylus
You can buy two of these for the price of one LYPEN.

I've put Fisher pressurized Space Pen refills, Pilot G2 refills, and currently, Parker Gel refills in mine. All fit and function perfectly, without the need for a small reducer collar which will be separated from the pen and easily lost. From the pics posted on Massdrop, it isn't clear where the location of the "Tungsten Steel Tip for tactical purposes" is placed on the pen or it's utility. Tungsten is not steel - are you mixing up some sort of proprietary alloy of the two materials? For what purpose?
" Tungsten carbide (chemical formula: WC) is a chemical compound (specifically, a carbide) containing equal parts of tungsten and carbon atoms. In its most basic form, tungsten carbide is a fine gray powder, but it can be pressed and formed into shapes for use in industrial machinery, cutting tools, abrasives, armor-piercing rounds, other tools and instruments, and jewelry. Tungsten carbide is approximately twice as strong as steel, with a Young's modulus of approximately 530–700 GPa (77,000 to 102,000 ksi),[3][6][7][8] and is double the density of steel."

48thRonin2Hi there,
The steel in the “Tungsten Steel Tip” refers to the fact that the entire shape of where the Tungsten sits on top of is made of steel. The darker cone shaped tip of the entire end is Tungsten. Please see attached image.
Thats awesome that you can fit all those on the BIGiDESIGN pen! By all means, stick with that pen. When we initially did our tests, the pen didn’t fit all of the refills that we tried. Perhaps we have missed something since! At the end of the day, sounds like the BIGiDESIGN pen makes more sense to you! I would definitely stick it. The LYPEN is not for everyone.

Any plans to make a tactical version of this? The simplest adjustment would do--just make one of the ends pointed so it can act as a defensive tool or glassbreaker.

Unless there is an optional end-cap, or the pictures are wrong - this particular pen comes with the flat end-cap, not the pointed one. @JonasHeineman, Can you confirm that?

End Cap's tiny yellowish point. That's the Tungsten one. You see?
This tip also carry carry your cap too. So it might be little longer than you think
+lypen don't make any other type of tip as I know But I think they will make flat or hoop or something soon

How is this pen different than this one? https://titaner-store.com/products/titan-titanium-pen
The pen that you’ve attached in the video is not the LYPEN. The cap for the LYPEN can easily be secured on the back of the pen via friction fit.

If that is the case they need to update the picture here in the description page on Massdrop - the one in the description page does not show that point in the main image. The image you included shows what could be that point - but you would never know that is what it was if you were not looking for it (if that is what it is). It makes sense though, that it would have it, since the pens made by Titaner have them, and the other companies that have sold these pens in the past did as well. :)

Hey ironhelixx,
I'm so sorry for the confusion.
The LYPEN does indeed come with a post (for the cap) fused with a Tungsten Steel tip.
The post serves a lot of functions. At the end of the post we have the tip made out of Tungsten Steel. The post can hold onto the pen cap as well. One of the major benefits the post serves is for the housing of the tiny titanium tube we use to minimize any wiggle.
search
In the picture above you can see the Teflon cap we use to secure the titanium tube inside the post.
For those who are confused what the titanium tube is, it fits inside the front barrel of the LYPEN where the refill's tip protrudes. To accommodate different refills, the titanium tube is used for thinner version refills to reduce any wiggle room it may cause at the opening.
I hope this clears up any confusion you may have!

Hi guys,
I'm so sorry for any inconvenience you guys may be having.
Just to clarify, when you guys say it does not fit on the back, are you saying it doesn't fit at all? Or that it doesn't go 100% flush with the end of the LYPEN?
Because the LYPEN is titanium, when we designed the post for the pen cap we accounted for a slight deviation in repeated use. Meaning that if you post the cap on the end of the pen but it's not 100% flush with the LYPEN- you can rest assure that it's perfectly normal.
Over time after normal usage it'll slowly fit perfectly.
Hope this helps, Mark Anthony

Thanks for putting up the photo's rolyatag. That is exactly how the cap on my Lypen sits when attempting to post it on the back of it. It only slides down approximately 1 millimeter and then gets stuck.
