Can somebody from HQ please clarify whether this takes a AA or AAA battery? Either way, what is the spec'd voltage range? WIll it handle li-ion rechargables at 3.7V?
RShack
It takes AAA. I've been using Energizer and Amazon rechargeable batteries and they both work but they're Ni-MH.
RShack
I believe I have used it with my EBL Li-ons. There is nothing on their website saying you can’t use high drain batteries in it, which is what you would expect to see if you couldn’t.
I agree with other posters...
There are so many contradictions between the pictures and the description that I shall NOT be joining this drop.
The pictures seem to be taken from County Comm, and the description over there states it to take a single AAA battery.
Bring on a brass or copper (or both) version, and I'll jump on it.
Whoa! Confusing drop. Massdrop, please just make a Massdrop Made version of the MD light in the photo below with a 90 degree lens option and a AA with 90 degree lens option. Remember to use a High CRI LED, and include easy ways to attach it to a headband or the adjustment strap for a ball cap. Regarding the CC offering, a twist switch on a headlamp makes no sense. Why would I want a 2 hand switch on a hands free headlamp/personal flood?

That's with the titanium tail switch, I couldn't find my brass massdrop light at the moment which would look better obviously. It still cycles M-L-H

IanEDC
IanEDC, Thank you. I will try it! Now if Maratac can just make a high CRI version of its personal flood light.
> Lists alluminum model > Show pictures of the copper model FFS, guys. C'mon.
Confusing mix of pictures and descriptions.
Is this an AA light, or AAA light?
“Aluminum”? Are you sure?
The photos being used show the Copper and Brass versions which are made from solid billets. 🤔
I have this light in Copper. I love the design of this light. I just wish it came in a Nichia version. Don’t care for the unnatural blinding white light of Cree elements. As a result, I’m not using this much at all other than display. May end up selling it. 🤷🏻‍♂️
What's the CQC value of this tactical personal flood lamp? How many hostiles can I neutralize that infiltrate my apartment during a blackout resulting from refusal to pay my electricity bill?
Clarid
Yeah - AGAIN with the “Tactical“. 🙄🙄🙄
So having had this for a while, and having started to get into Li-Po's, I'm curious, a 14500 will physically fit, (albeit the spring is compressed a bit more), but is the circuit designed to handle the voltage difference?
Maratac's website doesn't mention anything about it, so I'm assuming no, but never hurts to ask.
Will this drop be coming back soon? It has been in stock at Countycomm for some time already.
Hey everybody! Let's get 200 votes and get this one going again. I REALLY want one of these. ;)
Great news group! We’re happy to report that all of the orders have been shipped out from our warehouse and are now on the way to you! Please allow 24-48 hours for tracking to get into the shipper's system and start updating.

This a cool little light, perfect as a headlamp, strapped to my sling bag, or just hand held. Quite a few built-in features and only needs a standard AA battery. The magnetic bottom is a plus but wished it was a stronger magnet. Wish I bought 2.
VTR996
There is no magnet in this flashlight. Maybe you're thinking of the Olight Baton series. Those have a magnetic base.
An exciting update! The group’s order was picked up from the vendor and is now on its way to our warehouse in New Jersey. Given the tracking information provided, our warehouse team expects the shipment to come in by 9/1 and will be ready to get the order repacked and off to you as soon as it comes in.
Occasionally the shipment experiences a delay en route, but rest assured that we will keep the group updated throughout the entire process and let you know if something causes it to be set back.
We are thankful for your continued patience and you can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 9/3 or earlier if anything comes up.
It’s happening! Thanks to each of you, the drop was a success and we have contacted the vendor for the Maratac Tactical Personal Flood Light and submitted the group’s order. They are now working hard and preparing your orders for shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey, where our team will be standing by ready to break everything down into individual orders and reship them directly to you. We currently expect to have everything out of our warehouse and on its way to you by 9/11.
We will certainly keep you up to date on the process and provide all of you with updated information about the order status as soon as it becomes available to us.
You can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 8/28 .
Hope we don't have to wait 3 weeks for it to ship!
I got this and I love it. Since it's currently not sold in Germany this was not the cheapest way for me to get one - even though I paid more than the MSRP with shipping.
My recommendation: put in an Eneloop NIMH AA battery. They provide high amps and are a great choice for high output AA/AAA lights - unless you go Li-Ion
Aside from the cool factor, does this light offer any functional advantage over using just a plain old headlamp? I understand that it is less cumbersome to EDC than a headlamp, so that's one reason.
Just trying to figure out if this has any place in my collection.
Thanks.
K.T.N
@K.T.N. Most headlights are 3xAAA, or 4xAA (counter balanced at the back of your head), or custom rechargeable.
I think this is the best form factor for a 1xAA. You can take it out of the headband and use it as a regular flash light. Clip it on your shirt pocket. Stand it up and have sideways illumination. Lay it down and have diffused lighting reflecting off the ceiling.
Also, not that this is a flood light. It gives a nice even beam (no hotspot) in your field of view. Really nice for closeup work like in your tent, around the campsite or indoors. You'll need a headlamp with a lot more throw for walking about outdoors.
I have the Zebralight H502w and highly recommend it. It's twice as bright for almost the same runtime. It has a true moonlight mode (< 1lm). It also has a warm tint that looks much more pleasant outdoors on the greens and browns. But it's twice the price, so the Maratac is a good option if you don't want to spend that much.

I got the H502w around the time this Maratac drop first showed up. Per my previous post in this discussion thread, you can get it for about 1.5x the price, not twice.
Recently, I changed a bunch of halogen PAR30 bulbs in recessed canisters to their LED equivalents in my house. Since the LED versions are a couple of inches longer, I had to adjust the socket arm up within the canisters to make it look right. The extra light output of the H502w made a big difference in the readability of the scale within the canister. I highly recommend it over this Maratac.

I think there are 'better' floods on the market but this is a great price and that fact it runs on regular batteries means you don't have to fool around when you need to use it. For me that is the bonus.

Totally agree. I love my Zebralight H502w (previous generation) with its great UI and form factor. Being able to pop in any AA and get 100+ lumens is pretty sweet. For those of you looking for great quality (flood) light that doesn't get the attention they deserve checkout Zebralights. Their UI is still the best I've used and they make some great stuff. I've carried my H502w for several years now and it has been rock solid.
Love right angle lights but if you'd like some alternatives check out these: http://www.zebralight.com/Headlamp_c_7.html

The Zebralights aren't considerably larger. An H502w L2 AA flood headlamp is 2.76in, which is .02in shorter than the Maratac. It also has a lumen output that is twice that of the Maratac (260 vs 135). While it might be twice the price, it's twice the output.
And the size difference is literally negligible.

Thanks for pointing out this flashlight. I ordered one from e2fieldgear.com with coupon GUYD and got it for $62 shipped, vs $40 shipped (CA tax) for this Maratac. $22 more for:
- 120 vs 105 deg flood - 260 vs 135 lumen - clicky switch and IPX7 waterproof - more modes and brightness levels - headband for use as a headlamp
Seems like a no brainer to me.
I actually reviewed this

I love mine.

yeah... I don't see the reason to get this over the recently ended JETBeam one with the Cree R5 LED...
ZeosPantera
Subbed. I've only watched a few, but that was enough. Keep up the good work. Thanks Z!
$39.99 + $1.82 shipping to MSRP $38.95
Um...
jbsegal
Ahahah yes it does sound silly when you put it that way.
CountyComm's shipping costs ($9.95 if you only get the light) more than makes up for the difference though.
