Hello everyone,
I want to clarify any confusion on the Titanium AAA Flashlights we just released. This is a pre production run so the back of the packing says Aluminum, which we had from an existing run of lights we offer.
I have also heard concerns about the thread smoothness. We go over the threading twice with our 4 axis CNC lathe to ensure it's as smooth as possible, since its universally recognized as being incredibly difficult to machine titanium to begin with. Also Titanium tends to be gritty when it comes in contact with itself especially. Most of you have the Copper AAA which is a incredibly soft and smooth when it comes to knurling & threads in comparison. We do our best to make these as buttery as possible. I hope this clears up any questions about the Titanium AAA.
Thank you,
Mike @ CountyComm

Dear Massdrop Staff,
I am getting frustrated with the lack of response and corrective action from the Massdrop team regarding my request to redress the damaged Maratac AAA Titanium flashlight I received.
I believe your organization's email filtering is snagging my email address (:::omitted:::)... this theory shall be tested via the very message that I am sending from within the Massdrop website via the "Contact Support" button/link on My Transactions page (as the only other time I received a reply from the Massdrop team was when I used said method; all emails I have sent from my Hotmail address have received no reply). [REM: this message already sent via said link]
Here is a summary of my attempts to reach the Massdrop Team:

I wish to resolve this ticket quickly, please. Your prompt/escalated reply would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
* No reply from a human; the Massdrop system acknowledged that my ticket had been updated, though. Automated replies, IMHO, while useful to acknowledge communication receipt and filing, are not wholly sufficient when further action is needed as in this case.

Massdrop sold the product. Massdrop are responsible. Countycomm have nothing to do with it unless they help out of the goodness of their hearts?
OP, I would raise a dispute via PayPal or your card provider asap if massdrop have not responded.

scaples@scaples My apologies for the frustrations. I walked over to CS and they are looking into your ticket as well as the Hotmail issue. CS is a little extra busy with the holiday sales and they are getting things resolved as fast as they can. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
Massdrop and CountyComm are working together to make sure our members are taken care of.

For those that don't know, Ti and its various alloys are naturally very susceptible to galling, so even well machined threads will feel "gritty". Lubes with teflon, PTFE, in them are often recommended as they will help some, but nothing short of have dissimilar thread materials will remove the grittyness. For example, a Ti head on a Brass body is smooth as butter. Fluoridated grease, such as Krytox, is often recommended as well. Commonly found lube with teflon in it would be Super Lube. Beware using silicone grease on a Maratac light as they appear to use silicone o-rings which swell when exposed to the grease.
CC has done a nice job of machining the threads, and has an interesting approach to the knurling on this particular model with the knurling being knurled flat with a machining groove left for grip. To me it seems to be less likely to chew up other things such as a phone if carried together, while still being grippy enough for one handed operation. Weight wise, even the Copper/Brass models weigh next to nothing for shirt carry so this feels like a toy without a battery in it. Should be able to stash it about anywhere without weight concerns. This model like the rev 3.5 Copper one, appear to be PWM free drivers.

Would it be possible to flame-anodize one of these?

Mr_EThe bottom component, yes. Don't flame anodize the top component, as it houses the LED and glass which would easily shatter/melt under heat.

I received my Ti AAA Maratac from CC recently and it's not NEARLY as smooth when turning the head as my Stainless and Copper versions of the same light. The threads on the Ti feel like I'm grinding coarse, unrefined metal. Also, the edges of the tail end of the Ti light are much sharper than the other AAA Maratacs I own. Anyone else notice these differences? Is there a recommended solution or a particular product or lubricant I can apply to the threads to make them smooth?

allemanderI noticed the exact same issue. Not smooth at all. I did try some lithium grease with no improvement. It seems as if the male - female threads don't match smoothly.

This is very tempting, but it looks exactly like the stainless steel version I already own, and the SS version is also super-light weight.

whackoI agree, it doesn't look like titanium, wonder if this is a pic of the stainless by mistake. I have several different items in Ti and they all have that certain Ti luster, much different than this.

locknload223I think it might be a picture of the stainless. on their site, the heading says stainless but the copydescribes the Ti light ...

This is tempting because I own the copper and I like it so much. But will we get to see a drop for brass here in the future? The CountyComm page stated it will be out of stock until next year but I'm sure lots of people are waiting for the brass one too.

I scanned my flashlight with my Niton XRF and verified it is titanium (even though it says aluminum).

How can we confirm if we have received the titanium or stainless steel AAA flashlight? I bought the titanium one but can't tell the difference. Please advise.
