How does this sound compared to the AKG K7xx? Fidelity-wise and relative bass, mids, treble, etc. I have to decide between the two and I don't want to miss out on this if it ends up being the better of the two

NapostropheYou're comparing a closed back to a open back.

Napostropheboth are really great in their own rights, but if you are worried about availability, I would sway you towards this as the k7XX isn't going anywhere anytime soon. ;)

NapostropheHaha not a problem, both are good just depends on preference. Want more sound stage, or a bit more pop in your low ends

I think the 7xx's are pretty good at their price range. I personally prefer my closed backs though and usually stick with those.

I agree with bad build but the q701 driver is a k701 driver (both good) but I think the k7xx is its own headphone with a driver made for what people like about k701 702 & 712 that being said I still prefer the 712 most of all and the 701 second k or q

NapostropheI have modded mkII's, not these, but tuned more like the mayflowers. With a beefy amp, these are nice. Planars have a lot of speed, and good sound decay, and detail. They lean more toward the bright side, not very bassy. The t40's are better for that. The 7xx's are great all around. Satisfying bass, nice energy on the high end. They don't require as much power as the T50's. They're lighter and more comfortable the t50's for longer listening sessions. They're open back and are more comfortable in hot weather. The t50's are semi-open, but are likely modded with more damping material and are closer to closed back. Basically, at least for me, the t50's are a great alternative headphone. Better suited for certain types of music, depending on how they are tuned. GREAT for modding. Mayflower even sells and modding kit specifically for these. And they require a beefy amp to get the most out them. The 7xx's are great for anything out of the box. You don't really mod them. AKG's have a history of benefiting from burn in, but after a 1000 hours. Not a huge difference, though. Certain rough, sharp characteristics smooth out, making them more comfortable with time. They are also my current goto headphone. And 7xx's are way harder to get than modded t50's. There are MANY ways to get modded t50's.

ShreksDonkeyTechnically, t50's are semi, but with all the damping mods, you aren't far off.
