Just opened mine. Sound is very smooth. Not too bright. Definitely needs power. Playing them using a Tube Amp out of the box I am very impressed. Will give a better opinion after 100 plus hours of burn in.
Overall very comfortable and love the pads.
Thank you Massdrop & Fostex for what seems like a very good headphone.
jm090Definitely not as dark as other similar Fostex in this line. Very clear and with my Fiio E12 Headphone amp set on high gain they sound fantastic. Definitely worth more than twice as much as they sold for.
MusicLoverYou think they are gonna be fine with the Fiio e10k? That's what I am gonna be using while I wait for the Grace SDAC and the Cavalli Tube Hybrid to ship :(
MusicLoverThe MkIII's are probably my favorite headphones under $200... hoping that these are in a similar vein with a little better presence in the bass. Hoping mine show up tomorrow.
MusicLoverThe pads look like the Dekoni pads that Massdrop sells... if they are, they are perfect. I use them on the MkIII's and they are one set of replacement pads that seem to get my ears in a spot to not distort the sound. Glad they didn't go with those uncomfortably thin ones that came with the mkIII.
fallenmigI second his comment. Clamping force is spot on. These don't seem like they will cause audible or physical fatigue like my favorite headphones do (grado sr325). I've been looking for a good set of closed cans and I'm extremely happy 30 minutes into listening.
Also I'm pleasantly surprised how well they sound without an amp from my phone. I'm listening to them now without an amp while my brand spanking new Magni 3 is being installed. I timed it perfectly apparently, both arrived today:p
They don't seem to be as hard to power as Everyone says.
