umm noob question here, i just joined the 600ohms beyer 990 drop. and looking for a nice amp for it..
but to be honest i mostly streamed spotify on my pc (through Sound Blaster G5X external USB DAC/AMP) and those dont have RCA output (neither is my phone though its the LG V30 with its "built in amp")
now, i should drive the RCA through my existing G5X? or just directly through my pc motherboard? do i need this amp?
any suggestion/input is most welcomed
thanks guys

Papabearif i'm reading the datasheet correctly, 600 ohm 990 (96 dB/mW) needs 3.9 Vrms (11V peak to peak) to get to 110 dB SPL. That's quite a bit of voltage. You can try using your phone and computer first and see how that goes but you'll be needing an amp with large voltage swing. O2 has 26'ish Vpp voltage swing and is about as high amps get. These headphone need barely any current so you don't need a fancy amplifier beyond high voltage swing.
As for how to hook everything up, I'm not sure what would sound best. start with g5x I guess.
3.5mm stereo to rca cables exist which you may need for O2 or other amps. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=665 6ft might be a pain to deal with. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=9768 I'd get the 3ft version of the nicer one I linked. a "premium" cable does exist but I didn't like it - too stiff.
side note: if you do choose O2 you'll probably want the O2 with the x6 or 6.5 gain setting. in general you're probably going to need an amp with at least x3 gain to maybe even x8. GL

Michael-Qthats a whole lot of things that i perfectly dont understand lol. but if i can understand your explanation correctly it means that O2 is good enough even for 600ohms BD. well so far i've only driven my G5X with K7xx and thats already loud enough on low gain, but again, K7xx was like 60ish ohm? i think?
but you're right i would probably test out when my headphones arrived... then maybe try the O2
thanks man helps a lot!
