Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

An amp (amplifier) is a device that supplies power to your headphones, it takes the analog signal produced by your DAC (in this case, the Realtek chip on your motherboard), applies power to it and then sends the amplified signal to your headphones. The HD6XX needs quite a bit of power to function correctly. Not enough power would mean distortion.
If you're new to the audiophile world, you probably don't know what distortion sounds like. The easiest way to describe distortion difference is the sound quality difference between two output devices. Without proper amplification, your new HD6XX could potentially sound worse than your HD360, as your HD360 could already be operating with optimal power output from your motherboard.
Well, how bad would it kill me to get an entry level Amp? I think I found one on amazon for around $90+ and it has solid reviews.
i think someone said it works for this too? Though I'm sure it's not as good as some fancy amp.
I iust cant afford anything else Too be honest I prob shouldn't have gotten this either but it REALLY wanted it.
Most people here would recommend a Schiit Fulla 2 if you're on a budget. Obviously better sound would come out of higher end amps due to reasons I've just explained. Personally I don't like the sound of a Schiit because they're towards the sterile side of sound, but I must admit they are a good match for the HD6XX, because these are really warm and dark headphones, and will hide the imperfections of Schiit.
And unfortunately I don't know many products under $100 that I would personally recommend. If you don't mind second-hand, this would be my recommendation: https://www.amazon.com/CEntrance-DACport/dp/B004PCHHSM
Second-hand DACs (and some amps) aren't too bad. As they don't have any moving parts, it's unlikely anything will go wrong with them long term. I'd look in the classifieds for alternatives if you wanted to get the most out of your purchase.
It's an upgrade for sure , but it might take you a week or two to really appreciate it. Sounds silly but it'll take some time for your ears to adjust. But after a week or two, try going back to your old headphones and you'll realize how amazing these really are.
You're gonna love them, but I've just heard of way too many people being disappointed with their first high end headphone expecting their heads to explode
