CokemanThanks, so what is best Dac for me to choose, so many of them, mainly for music and recording piano playing, and some computer games for my son.
GdmaxDepends on your price range, for budget I'd get a Magni 3 Modi 2 for $199, for more I'd get a Jotunheim with DAC $499 or NFB-11 $330-350, even more I'd get the Jotunheim with the Modi 2 Multibit DAC...
tessierpgI am new to the high end headphpnes, so i am a bit confusd from all the data around me.
At first maybe i'll use my Yamaha RX-V800 amp till i get figure out the DAC thing
GdmaxYour car amp is designed to drive 2 to 8 Ohm speakers, not 300 Ohm Headphones. Sure it might drive them but I doubt it is going to sound all that great. Plus you would still need a pre-amp for volume control. You would be better off just getting a headphone amp.
JamieNZI am using it, and it's ok with the AKG m220
But i don't like this amp too much since it luck the low bass frequency boosts, or maybe it is just my AKG m220 that don't deliver that
GdmaxI also have a a pair of M220's. My setup is a Shanling M1 connected to Schiit Magni 3. Provided both the M1 and Magni are in high gain mode it drives the AKGs pretty well. I have only just received the Magni (as in yesterday) but so far I'm pleased with the setup. I also have a Yamaha RX-V677receiver for my Home Theatre system and turntable . I have spent a few hours listening to vinyl on it through the AKGs and it sounded pretty good to my non-audiophile ears. I have it to set to 2 Channel Stereo with no EQ presets. My receiver doesn't have a phono stage so I have a Schiit Marni pre-amp. If you live in the USA you can't really go past Schiit for good low priced gear, especially as it comes with a two year warranty. Outside of the US shipping is a bit pricey (I paid $35 US to have it shipped to New Zealand) but still worth it IMO. I got the Magni 3 for the HE4XX which I ordered through Massdrop (waiting, waiting). I don't have the HD6XX's.
