Just Ordered these bad boys i hope they dont take 5 months to ship to me also guys i bought these for gaming and for listening to Music will i need an amp to boost the sound i dont know much about amps so if someone could explain it to me and tell me the best amp for around $100-150 i would really appreciate it thanks also i wanna use these for travelling so a portable amp would be great.
RossMcDepending on your onboard audio, you probably won't NEED a DAC and AMP to have them at an alright volume, but you'll probably want them at some point if you want to use these at their full potential (they'll sound much better with a DAC and headphone Amp).
General consensus seems to be that the Schiit Modi 2 and Magni 3, or more affectionaly known as the "Schiit Stack" are a good starting point at $200 USD for both. Though, I can't personally speak to how they sound yet as mine are currently on back order and shipping in May.
RossMcThe Fiio headphone amps are awesome and push my Senn HD-630VB's (variable bass) cans nicely and also make my ie80S's shine. I have two of the Fiio portable headphone amps, the E12 Monte Blanc which has the bass boost and gain setting (terrific unit) and I have the E12 DIY which also has the gain switch but no bass boost BUT with the DIY, you can actually swap out the op-amps and tailor the sound to your liking (ie more highs, more bass etc). I use them with an AK70 MKll and my fussy ass is fairly pleased most of the time BUT.. ....always on a mission for more!! There is also the new(er) A5. I do not have an A5 but they look identical to the E12's but are available in black and I have read that they are excellent also, similar in performance to the E12 line. These Fiio amps fall in your price range (the DIY is more) and will bring these cans to life and they are similar in size to an iPhone 4 or an iPhone SE (if you can remember) but much lighter and the build quality is solid aluminum and excellent! They come with nice thick rubber bands to strap them to your phone or DAP and Fiio also includes a short (needed) cable to connect your two devices. They are great units, if you are like most of us, you will like them (and need them to adequately drive the cans).....Google or Amazon them. Good luck!
