I've had word back from massdrop where I asked them to advise about their false advertising and the legality of extending a limited edition run. Here's probably the worst response ever:
Hi there,
We apologize for any confusion caused by the description on the drop page and understand your frustration. The product you bought is indeed a limited run, and the first drop we ran was only for 1500 units. The drop that is currently running is from the same production run and limited to 800 units. Your feedback in regards to the copy will be passed to the appropriate department for consideration.
Warmly, Hillary

Dave7x@ArthurM Same production run of the 1500? Why didn't they make a drop of the total 2300 units, so they would avoid confusion, fustration and misleading advertising?

MoJo71Hi All,
First I want to apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the Limited nature of the K7xx. It absolutely wasn't our intention to mislead anyone.
Our first production run of these headphones was larger than the 1500 units we allocated to the first drop. We were originally going to drop the remainder of them the following month but saw a pretty high sales volume continuing as we were nearing the end of the first drop so we thought it made sense to continue selling them, but rather than extending that drop we wanted to get them shipped out to the early customers as quickly as possible so we ended it. Once those units finished shipping we started this drop.
When we created the K7xx we wanted to make what has traditionally been more expensive headphone technology available to as much of the Audiophile Community as possible as well as get the attention of people that weren't yet headphone enthusiasts, and as a few people have mentioned we've made lots of black K7xx's and will continue to make these and other versions available as long as it remains a really great value.
We will definitely be looking into the wording we use on our custom products moving forward to provide as much clarity and transparency as possible, and again I apologize for the misunderstanding.

nicpopeWell I accept your explanation. I never once thought fakery was the motive. You should try in the future to be more precise in your language. So often things are misunderstood because of vague and inprecise wording. For myself, I'm happy that more people will be able to get these headphones. Keep bringing quality products to market for reasonable prices and I'll keep buying!
