Hello everyone! I’m excited to announce the Massdrop x Fitsok Spectra Run Sock! We’ve been working with both Spectra and Fitsok for the last 6 months or so to bring you a thoughtfully designed, highly durable running sock. This sock has been tested to the extreme in the lab and out in the field to ensure it performs above and beyond. Spectra yarns have existed for decades now and are not uncommon in the outdoor industry but they are most common in military and law enforcement use, being used for bulletproof vests. Some exciting specs about Spectra yarns:15 times stronger than steelLight enough to float on waterNatural cooling touchPulls heat off the body naturally (great for a running sock!) After thinking of ways we can utilize Spectra yarns, running socks naturally came up in the conversation given the extremely high quality of our key factory partner Fitsok. They specialize in running socks and have years of experience in what materials and compression should go where on the sock body to make the best overall running sock. Currently, we are testing these socks at the internal labs at Honeywell’s facility and they are still ongoing, surpassing 80,000 cycles of abrasion testing as of the morning of July 13, 2018. Our history working with Spectra began in January of 2018 while at the Outdoor Retailer show in Denver. We spent our time at the show meeting with current and potential brand partners, as well as materials and trims suppliers. Spectra kept coming up as a key supplier to partner with, which prompted our reaching out. The team at Honeywell in charge of Spectra have been great partners and are so fun to work with!

this is helpful, thanks!

Thanks for sharing @Dakota337 !
I wear a size 8.5 mens - not really sure what size I should get. Thoughts?
There is nothing special about this sock. I regret buying it lol.
Hi @kim.suarez - I'm looking to buy a pair or two for my wife for Christmas. She usually wears a size 6.5 shoe. What size would you recommend I go with, especially given the return policy?
ryancdenner
What a great Christmas present! Definitely the Small. They will fit perfectly!
So I have been looking around online trying to find out why I would wear a low cut rather than a crew or whatever and can't find any info. Can someone please explain why they seem so popular? also why this only comes in low cut?
waywardson
Purely style while wearing shorts (and then you get used to them and other cuts kind of feel strange). If you care about fashion, you want absolutely no sock showing and the sock to mirror the cut of the sneaker.
Not impressed with the fiber content. Hard to justify $10/pair for 60% nylon. 12% merino isn’t really enough to give you any real benefit of what the fiber has to offer in the sock at all imo. And 13% “spectra” for a total content of interest of 25% of the composition. Not buying the toe and heel as the only important parts of the sock either. Yes, 13% of the spectra fiber will add strength to a sock that doesn’t need it since it’s already 60% nylon.

Thanks for the insight! Nylon is actually very durable so this sock will hold up if durability is an issue. The merino and spectra contents are low because we consolidated them to only where they really needed to be for durability and comfort, as increasing those contents would drastically increase the cost. Spectra is very strong (same fiber as Dyneema) and this is the first time this fiber has been added to a sock, so it's a great concept we're exploring for future sock products as well. What would you love to see from a content perspective? We can work on concepting that out with Spectra and Fitsok.
@waywardson these could be your torrential downpour runners!
john.webb
maybe, depends on some things... thanks for the heads up
I would buy at least 2 sets of these right away if they came in grey or black!? Any chance that they will be offered in colors in the future??
beagleslp
I think black would be cool! I'll work on a sample. The Spectra yarns only come in white and black, so any other color and there will be a heather look in the heel and toe. But black would be really cool!
Do not see the XXL sizing listed in the chart. For a size 14 shoe, XL or XXL? Thanks
awurstl
I would actually say XL. Since you're on the edge, you can go either way. But I've actually been testing a Small, and I'm normally a Medium and they fit perfectly. It's not that the sizing is off, but there is enough stretch to make sizing down workable
I wear 10.5 4E and loved that the other Fitsok socks had 10.5 on the low end of the XL 10.5-12 size since 4E feet are bigger.
Unsure if I should go for the L or XL with these.
supah
You could go either way. I've been testing the medium and small (normally a medium) and they both fit well. The smalls are more snug but in a way I really like.
Ship date in November? Won't be wearing these during winter, that's for sure.

Good news! Hopefully they stay that way until spring time...not going outside to walk around in snow with these haha.
T-Rav
Yes they should as we got a nice little stock to go through. :)
just ordered this and the ship date says Nov 5, 2018 it's July now? You guys gotta wait for sheep shearing season before you make the socks?
>a blend of merino wool and Spectra fiber >only 25% actually merino or Spectra Really?
spiderbro
The merino and spectra are found in the toe and heel to offer the exact amount of support needed without having these be too expensive and overkill.
Is the sizing chart accurate? I'm usually wear a small in everything I buy (and very infrequently a medium) including socks but this chart says Size 8 for mens is a Large? For comparison purposes I've worn Darn Tough in small which goes up to 7.5 but that is a tad bit too snug for my size 8. Just wanted to make sure the chart is accurate.

I too think the size chart is a bit suspect. My feet are US 11/EU 46, but not very wide, and I have found size L is spot on. The recommended XL would be very loose and probably bunch up and cause discomfort. People's results may vary depending on foot volume...
satanas
@satanas See above! Looks to be the chart was not correct. Our fault!
Hello, Fistock's website sells a 3-pack for $20-$25 and the drop is $20 for a 2-pack.
What am I missing?
Ballintoss
I’m guessing the socks on the Fitsok website aren‘t made with spectra.
Ballintoss
@samhaldane is correct, it is the Specta yarns which makes this product unique and they are not a cheap yarn, thus the price increase vs the standard Fitsok running sock.
Has anyone compared them to Uniqlo sport socks? They are 3 for $10 and very similar.
Aventador
Seems like it's meant for casual wear, instead of 'sports' based on the design
Where can I find the "Lifetime Guarantee"? From the Fitsok website, their return policy is as follows:
If you are unsatisfied with your FITSOK purchase contact us for a return authorization number (RA#). Returns within 15 days of delivery are eligible for exchange, credit or refund. Returns over 15 days but less than 30 days from delivery date will be eligible for exchange or credit only. After 30 days from delivery date FITSOK will not accept socks for return.
How is that a lifetime warranty?
judismith
Here (it's linked to in the drop overview): https://s3.amazonaws.com/massdocs/Fitsok+Warranty.pdf
samhaldane
@samhaldane I saw that. But note that the document does not state what is covered by the lifetime guarantee. That document is basically a meaningless piece of marketing. Is there something that has a little more bite?
Have to agree I would hit the join button if they only a little taller. Been wearing taller socks so long they have rubbed all the hair off my monkey legs. Wearing short socks makes me look like I have white wall ankles! Maybe down the line...
MichiganBill
Great to know, thanks for sharing! We'll get on that!
This is the email blast that made me change my email address so I no longer care when I get subscribed to new email categories.
PS: That gap between the top of the sock and the tights (as in your photo) is what kills them for me. :-(
Please consider a slightly taller version with a height like the "Massdrop x Fitsok Merino Hiker," or even a tad taller. I find those about perfect for general use, but cooler and more durable but still with some merino would be excellent for hot weather, and cycling in particular. (I dislike really short socks as my ankles get cold and/or sunburnt.)

Thanks, I second the longer length. I would have gone in on this drop if the socks were over the ankle.
satanas
Yup at least micro crew height.
Other colours would be great as well but guessing the grey/white is due to the spectra thread colouring.
