Just received mine. Literally just took it out of the box and plugged it into my CTH. Zero burn in time. I can already say I will likely retire my Fostex TH-00. Holy crap, these sound better than I remember when I auditioned the Elears and Clears at a local audio store. I can say I hear things from my music that I've never heard the Fostex never presented. I can't wait to experience these after a week of burn in.
Also, the cables. I really appeciate the shorter cables that came with it. It's still a little stiffer than I would like, but I think I will enjoy being able to use it with a portable player. Can't wait for my Hiby R3 portable player to arrive.
I need to mention that out of the box, there's some semblance. I'm hoping that burns off with more burn in time.
caliphoniaDescribe these "things" you're hearing. Are you hearing the voice of God? Are you now hearing devils music without having to play the record backwards?
frivoflava29Not sure how it's spelled, but yes, I heard it listening to one youtube video. It was just that one. I haven't heard it in any of my music or any other audio sources yet. I'm quite sensitive to treble. It's the one reason why I never bought an HD800. I'm listening to the Elex through a CTH fed by a Mojo as the DAC.
JutsuIt's like angels sitting on my shoulders. lol. To be serious, I'm still trying to make sense of what I'm hearing. The clarity and detail is astounding compare to what I've been using so far. I'm still a noob in this sport, but I have enjoyed a TH-X00 and Andromeda up till now, and I used to own an HD650. The sound stage seems wider than anything I've had so far. The TH-X00 sounds like the audio is in the center of my head. The Elex sounds like it's around me. It's nothing like the HD800 sound stage, but I'm really enjoying the wider sound stage. The bass is very, very good. It doesn't have the thump of the TH-X00 but man, it is still so sweet. I didn't think an open dynamic headphone could have this kind of bass, given my past experience with Sennheisers.
Again, I'm still trying to make sense of what I'm hearing, but man, it sounds good to me. Very engaging. Perhaps it's accentuating certain frequencies? Sounds like it to me. If the Andromedas and HD650 are considered neutral, then I would say these are NOT neutral. It makes me wonder if I would be able to discern the next level up. Utopias, Stax, or Sonomas...? Hmm...
caliphoniaThe treble that's bothering you might be the paring. My Elex arrived last week and I'm not a huge fan of the CTH/Elex pairing. It works great with some music but sometimes it accentuates the highs in a way I find unpleasant. Contrary to what I expected, I love it out of the amp on my RME ADI-2 DAC. That was a surprise though because my I much prefer my HD6xx from the CTH than my amp on the ADI-2 DAC.
caliphoniaI did an A/B test against a friend's LCD-3. I came away believing I'm set for awhile. Each one did better than the other on certain tracks, but overall, they were both incredible. The Elex seems to have a wider sound stage than the LCD-3. The LCD-3 was better for intimate voice recordings. The Elex was more resolving overall. It shows that in order for me to get a lot better performance, I'd have to spend a heck of a lot more. For my ears, I'm really liking the Elex. I still plan on picking up a planar for those tracks that sound better with planars. I'll probably pick up an Aeon Open next year.
