Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

I have four questions for existing users...
1. Build - literally there is no clamping force; I am used to having headphones squeeze me a bit more, and I am worried about getting a solid seal (I am not saying that I am getting a bad seal, but that this is different than I am used to). Is this normal?
2. Build - there is a blemish on the right earcup. Looks like the earcup was dented (or imperfect to start with, and the stain/lacquer applied over the imperfection). Is this normal since wood is a natural product?
3. Sibilance... so I am somewhat sensitive to this, and I find sibilance in the mids/higher mids. I have tinnitus (a lasting gift from a run-in with meningitis) which may make it worse for me. I have read that others have noticed this sibilance as well. Are there any mods just to tame the sibilance?
4. Vocals... I also find some graininess, particularly noticeable in vocals... Music is flac format from Tidal. Note - no burnin yet, raw impressions. Am I the only one (maybe I have a bad pair),or is this addressed by burnin? Any mods to address this if it is a real and permanent problem?

I bought a Mayflower O2/ODAC Rev B ( 1x and 3.3x gain ) specifically for these as my Asus Xonar STX has a 10 ohm output impedance making it unsuitable for driving anything under about 80 ohms. I've only had the Ebonies a few days but they sounded amazing out of the box to me. No sibilance and certainly no grainy vocals.
Now...do I really need the Purpleheart? :P
I really want to like these, and will let them burn in for a while and then do at least the foam rotation mod. Then we'll see!
I also got in on the latest E-mu Teak drop, so I will be able to do around and build compare.
Happy listening!!
I am actually just starting to think about the kit I need for both a desktop rig as well as for higher quality portable listening...
Thinking about the Fiio x5 or x7, or even DX200 for portable. The v30 is a decent audio phone, so maybe I just need a portable amp, but I am thinking about the future when I have something other than the v30 and something dedicated might be a better source... I am a real noob (clearly more dollars than sense), but would I need a separate portable amp for one of those DAPs?
I also need to figure out a desktop setup and I am really confused. On the one hand a nice combo DAC/AMP would be convenient, but if I buy separate components I can pick to my liking and upgrade in pieces... MD currently has the Massdrop x THX AAA 789 which looks interesting amp to my untrained eye, but then I need a DAC...
So many decisions, so little knowledge, and so much less self control!!!
Now if only my new DT1990 cans will also mellow out after burn I will be thrilled!
