How similar is this to the HE-400?

YummyPotatoFaceHE350 is probably much worse (while being cheaper). I have HE-350 and HE-400i (refined version of HE-400) and sonicaly they are similar (so yes, HE350 has "Hifiman sound"), but planar magnetic technology makes HE-400i far superior in every aspect, mainly male vocals and bass. The lesson for me is that headphones bought for 99$ will most likely sound like 99$ despite having inflated MSRP :)

MynnyI don't know what type of setup you have that you can say the HE-350 and He-400i have similar sound signature. The 350 is a very bright headphone with much more treble energy while the 400i has very little treble energy with a decent amount of extension. 400i is more similar to HD650 since it sounds like cymbals (highs) and the upper midrange are toned down quite a bit and have some emphasis in the bass and midbass region giving it a very warm and lush sound. While the 350 has a much more aggressive sound signature with sparkling highs and forward upper midrange. I personally dislike the sound of the 400i because it sounds muffled, similar to listening to music that is behind a wall or underwater even. I am using a Fiio E09k and dragonfly DAC. Lol Unfortuntely, I will be returning my 400i because the sound frustrates me so much and makes me feel like I cant hear at certain points.

Chris_TInteresting, I use Fiio A5 paired with either Asus Xonar DX or Zuper DAC. With ZuperDAC they are a bit too bright for me, while with Xonar they are almost perfect, with some slight sibilance, but much lower than than in case of HE350. Last word I would ever use for them is "muffled" :)

MynnyNice, thanks for the info and the reply. But yeah at least the 400i that I received makes me feel like my music source is stuck inside of a plexi-glass box that i cant break open. Maybe its because the He-560 would be more to my taste. I'm coming from AD700(from when I began the hobby), K702, T70p and T50rp Mk 3. So that might be the reason I think of the 400i that way.
