Sitting here listening to my original Porta Pro's from Koss, purchased a year or so ago. Warmer treble than I prefer, but easy to brighten up with EQ (I use Onkyo's HF Player app on my iPhone, which lets you set different EQ curves for different headphones; treble is now nice and sparkly!). Bass is more than on my usual desktop go-to headphones, my beloved AKG M50x. I'm enjoying that.
These have a very pleasant sound and good imaging; the drumset on "O Tannenbaum," from the Vince Guaraldi Trio's, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" album was so realistic (sans EQ) that I almost forgot I was wearing headphones--so can I complain about reduced treble? Well, yeah--EQ is still good.
I also like getting the mic on this drop ("mic drop," heh), though I might not use it very much, and for 30 bucks, this deal is hard to beat. Add me to this drop!
riccardo99Haha, good that you are enjoying it! Planning to get it with this cyber Monday deal. But AKG M50x... It's the first time I'm hearing of such a headphone XD
UzuzuYou are right, of course: the ATH-M50x is a product of Audio Technica, not AKG! Yikes. Mea culpa! (For what it's worth, I love AKG's microphones, especially their condensers...but that would be a different drop!)
riccardo99I love Beyer, AKG, and Sennheiser so much I'd marry all 3. But my favorite is still beyer. Best out of box pads, comfort, and all their headphones fit their respective roles, perfectly.
UzuzuAs a musician, I tend to go for studio headphones because I'm looking for accuracy. Steve Gutenberg liked the Koss Pro 4S over the M50x (tighter bass); I'd like to hear that one too. Heard good things about Beyer; I'll have to try them out (they also make some nice mics). No doubt AKG's are great; their mics are superb. I like the Sennheisers I've listened to. I also have the HiFiMan HE-400S; it's fabulous as well. Certainly lots of good choices these days--how lucky are we?
