Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

I'm new to the audio world and massdrop. If you have the time to spare, I'd like some advice. Would the pc37x need a preamp and/or DAC to work well? If so (or other gear), what would I need to get.
I'm happy to buy something that will be useful for higher impedance headphones as well as for this headset.
Thank you!
Some nice starter gear would be a Schiit stack. The modi/Magni. Basically dac play with analog and digital signals, converting them while the amp- amplifies the current going through. Basically you get more headroom -depth, dynamics, volume, bass. With these, it's not needed though. They're easier to run than others. If you're going to use the mic though, a sound card for your PC is the best option. It's easy to plug and play. If you're going to get other headphones, get a dac and amp that you'd be content with for a long time. It really is a rabbit hole, once you get a taste of sound as it should be, you'll grin and open up that wallet.
Forgive any typos. My iPhone really hates MD'S site.
I was looking at the schiit stack before, along with an odac/amp combo.
If I were to go the sound card route, would you have anything to recommend? Ideally I'd want something that wouldn't introduce any noise into my mic.
The route I went was with a creative X7 LE. Massdrop or the creative site might still have a sale going on, but it's like $349 for that.
