Made in Japan’s cutlery capital, Seki City, the MCUSTA M7 is small, sophisticated, and made from premium materials. It features a 2.75-inch blade made from 33-layered nickel Damascus with a core of VG-10 steel—a high-carbon-content steel manufactured in Japan Read More
The handle kills the Katana/Bushi design for you? Meaning there is too much handle for your taste, not that you dislike the the handles' texturing, which is meant to suggest a traditional Japanese wrapped sword handle?
That's funny because I'm just the opposite: a big selling point for me is that there's a lot of handle for the blade. I like a lot of handle on pretty much an knife, and again, the long handle is one of the features I really enjoy about the new-ish Boos Blade "Smoke" I picked up a cpl months back. The handle, like the overall knife design, is very thin. But it's also quite long and light, so it feels to me easy to manipulate and control.
Sounds like the model to keep an eye out for a good price on would be the small, rather than the large variety, the Tsuchi: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Mcusta-Tsuchi-Small-Knife-Stainless--29610 https://www.bladehq.com/item--Mcusta-Tsuchi-Damascus--6165Or even better, the frame-locking Nami--never seen this one in person, but I wish Mcusta had more frame lock models: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Mcusta-Small-Nami-Frame-Lock-Knife--25220
*Edit ...⬆️and a pocket clip!
HatuletohNo, the Katana handle I liked. Just the pattern on the Bushi is what I didn't like
Those Tsuchis look nice though.
And that Nami....if only it were titanium I could play with, instead of stainless.
And, yeah, a pocket clip....but they did it wrong. Tip down only 🤮 lol
Amazon is selling the same knife from $119- $159.00 so this is a great deal, plus MASSDROP is giving a case with it. It makes me feel good to know that Massdrop is doing their job for us. WAY TO GO MASSDROP !
bro, its Nishijin pouch, made of most famous, highest class cloth in Japan. you may dislike the look, but its certainly more classy and suitable for the type of knife ;) than what we are usualy getting.
btw. Mcustas are great, I had 3, kept one and though I have many knives its still close to my heart. VG10 is cool steel, easy to sharpen and will take mean hair whittling edge if you know what you're doing. 33 layer damascus on sides is realy nice and even no-knife people will be amazed with its apearance. Mcustas are gentleman folders, they do not fly open and closed, are pretty heavy for the size due to SS construction but leave a feel of capable and strong knife. That said grips are not made for longer and hard work and will leave a mark on your hand.
Does anyone have any knowledge about this blade and its quality? I really like the way it looks, so I am tempted on getting on on this drop if there is some goods words about it.
Knife arrived quickly.
The hinge was terribly grainy out of the box and required cleaning and light oiling to operate smoothly.
The branded face of the blade has rough machine marring on it. The opposite face is smooth. The blade has a pretty sharp edge, did not need to be sharpened out of box. The edge was machine sharpened, not hand sharpened.
Very nice knife. Pockets well.
Over-ConsumerExactly the same, except the liner has a line where it's split to make the lock bar. Or were you making a joke about the dearth of images?
EthanzcI wouldn't mind paying a little extra for a CPM steel, preferably SV30V or SV35VN. But, yeah, VG-10 is incredibly popular among EDC manufacturers due to its resistance to corrosion and its ease for mass-production. Even if its edge retention isn't the best, it's at least relatively easy to sharpen as it doesn't require the patience of a saint.
