I have one of these tactility folders, and the construction is a little bit disappointing for the price. I'd expect teflon washers on a $20 knife; for $175 I'd want good quality phosphor bronze washers. The cheap and squishy plastic washers don't give the knife a nice and smooth opening as the price suggest, but a grabby and hard opening knife.
The pivot screw is hard to take apart since the nut is smooth. I had to grind a slot in the nut for a blade screw driver to take it apart.
The screws holding the scales together feel a bit soft compared to the torx screws on my US made knives. However, the comfort of the grip and the quality of the blade itself can't be faulted, so if they just fixed the (very minor and easy to fix) gripes I have, this could be a 4.5 star knife for sure.

I'm sorry mongrel, but I don't work for Massdrop. You'd better take your issue up with an actual customer rep.

JonasOAgree with the price for Teflon washers. I was okay with Teflon washer Spydies when I first got into knives but no way I'm paying over $100 for one. Glad makers like Rick Hinderer and their fanboys finally got the message.

Incidentally, if you have bought or are considering buying this knife or any other from this company, it might interest you to know how to correctly pronounce the name of Mcusta. I dont feel too bad about this, because everyone I've communicated with, including employees of cutlery shops, have pronounced Mcusta as I have been, but according to the helpful card included with my just received Mcusta Katana, I've been saying it wrong:

Vg10, Teflon washers, bad looking "wood", poorly placed thumb studs, and way over priced. A bad cash grab trying to use the Damascus, and it isn't even nice Damascus.

This was $40 cheaper on the last drop with a quince handle, which I think was better looking. I bought the non-damascus blade because it had a thumb hole in place of the stud which I thought improved the look and was $20 cheaper yet. The knife looks nice but the action just ok. Needs a bit of a wrist flick to open. The real problem is that pretty handle is super slick. If you are not careful, it will fly out of your hand while you try to open it.
No way I would pay $175 for this knife. Much better choices here.

I want this knife but I seriously have an issue with paying $175 for VG-10 steel.

What a beautiful knife. The burl wood with damascus blade steel is a great combination imo. I live in Oregon and the region I'm in has a lot of oak burl wood and I love how an ugly growth on a tree can be "turned" into something beautiful.

There are very similar MC-12s on other sites for about the same amount of money. I think that this is a very good looking knife. Very good knives come out of Seki City. I don't know about dropping $180 or more on a VG-10 folder. With what I have read about warranty issues with knives from MD, I don't think that I would consider buying one where problems could easily be expected. Like the wood. Bad F&F. Damage. There are several other dealers online that I purchase from, and they have always been helpful and willing to correct problems. If I really collected knives instead of buying them to use, or I'm curious, or give to others, I just might consider this one. Is there a Safe Queen in your future?

14themoneyI've got a ratio of about three queens to one worker, but interestingly, my two, until recently but now three, Mcustas are workers (the latest being a Katana delivered this past Thursday via Massdrop). Light-work workers to be sure, because I have enough less pretty knives if I need to beat something to hell, but the Mcustas definitely are not safe queens or even drawer models. They're just too well built to never be used, and they never fail to start a conversation. And they ALMOST look classy enough to not draw strange looks at the steak house when I decline to mangle my beef with their very misnomered "steak knife" that is in fact so dull I'd have had doubts it could have gotten through the decoratively sculpted butter.

I bought this knife direct from Japan about 7 years ago. Lovely knife and sharp blade with a nasty fault at that time whether it has been remedied in the last 7 years who knows. The fault is the point of the blade protrudes slightly out of the handle when closed. I have received a few slight cuts in my hand over the years. The knife I received does have the potential to put someone in hospital if friction caused the knife to open in the pocket.
