These are made in China, but I've got to admit, they look pretty sweet. There is no fluid in the compass. As usual, MD leaves out tons of details that the MecArmy product page shows here: https://shopmecarmy.com/collections/featured-product/products/cmp2t-2b?variant=11961837387820 There's no mention of what the "crystal" is made from. It's probably polycarbonate. From my experience, carrying a compass like this in your pocket will ruin it over time, especially if it's carried next to ferrous metals. Not only will it get scratched all to hell, but the magnetism will be ruined. I used to carry a Suunto on my EDC carabiner and had to throw it away after just a few years of being next to a flashlight, nail clipper, tweezers, and a carbide striker for a ferro rod. I believe this product would best be used as a zipper pull on a backpack, fanny pack, gear vest, neck chain, etc. I suppose you could also stitch or tie it onto a wrist band of some sort for easy hands-free access.

Guys this is a 99 cent keychain compass encased in metal. For $24. This is stupid. Why are you people buying this?
wwwooobecause it's tacky. You will never go broke selling tacky junk.

Is the D ring attached made out of the same material, ie; the titanium compass comes with a titanium d ring? I'm worried about the D ring breaking over time, and i'd rather not have that happen

what is the "glass" made out of? It would be cool on a keychain but I worry it would get scratched in pockets?

Anyone know if the crystal is sapphire, scratch-proof? Or plastic/glass?

Is the copper clear coated, or is it left raw to patina? Hoping for the raw copper.

What are the chances you could buy two of these, then swap the case screws out one by one to avoid ruining the mechanism. I want a solid brass compass. Would be willing to trade as well!

Spike_SPGLThat would no doubt work. I believe the internal compass assembly is self-contained and just drops in (if it’s anything like their earlier compass). I think the plate simply holds the assembly in keeping it from falling out.
Personally, I like the accent that the different screws provide.
