it would be nice if MASSDROP put an AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Headphone for every 200 entries, keeping the probabilities relatively high, Come On MASSDROP you are awesome, you can doit.

Faboo13I mean, I can't really refuse someone who thinks I'm awesome. You're right, we can definitely add some more cool stuff to a drop that our members have shown so much interest in.
Here's what I have in mind:
1,000 units - Another AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Headphone 1,500 units - Mid-tier IEM (retail value $299) 2,000 units - High-end IEM (retail value $499) 4,000 unit stretch goal - Flagship headphone (retail value $X,XXX)
I'll reveal each prize as it get unlocked, although... I could be swayed into revealing early if this post gets enough thumbs up. :)
Please do keep in mind that the prizes are here just to provide you the members with a little bit of fun, which is why we're limiting it to 2 units max per person. The main lure of the draw should be these excellent MEElectronics IEMs.

Is there a way to enter the special prize drawing without purchasing?

No you are not. You've hypothesized about the legality of their grab bag by quoting "about.com." You simply want a chance at the high end goodies without paying anything. You've already mentioned that you don't need IEM's but would like the HD800's. Good luck with the weak ass attempts at trying to finagle a freebie out of MD just as a hush money payment.

You're not "just trying to make sure massdrop knows what they're doing" that implies you have good intentions of some kind when in fact you just want a chance at something for absolutely nothing. Just stop

Drumroll please.
We've worked out all of the details with MEElectronics, and I have the winners for all of the one-offs in my virtual hand. Everything's going to begin shipping out. Now all that's left is the announcement, how would everyone prefer to receive the news?
Do you want it to be a pleasant surprise for the winners, where you actually don't know what you're getting until you check your mailbox? Or, would you rather we spoil it for you now and email you our congratulations so you can gloat while waiting for your package? Of course, any international members will be emailed to confirm they're okay with potentially paying customs. A little bit of a charge may sting, but hopefully it's a small price to pay for the sweet stuff you're getting.

Yeah I replied back to vote I'd like it spoiled.... and realized they did so already. I'll be honest that I am disappointed that I didn't win... but I've been saving for a HD800 anyways.

Zombie_XYeah, winning def would've been nice (so long HD 800), but at least we get the base level MEElec's at 1/2 off!

What the heck, wasn't the maximum quantity at 4000 before? Now it's 5000. That is clearly misrepresentation as the odds have increased tremendously after the time of my purchase. The terms have changed for the worse, after the time of my purchase.

I think once they hit 5000 participants they will include an extra prize. If so then the probability of winning a prize will have increased (the quoted 1/# of participants is inaccurate as there's multiple prizes)

I wouldn't call that a flaw, more like an addendum :)
It says "x # purchased" in the description and I used "committed" and "purchased" interchangeably, my fault. I happened to notice the change but what about the people who didn't? Those who don't know you can cancel? Edit: Cancel option looks like its only available for the duration the drop is active, drop has ended, "cancel" option is gone and payment status is now "Paid".
My points still apply because the ability to cancel comes after the "agreement" to commit, if you come to know about the change. MD didn't send out an email alerting people of the change, the "buyer" had to be proactive in following up on this page, so it still favors them and is overall deceptive, the degree of which I'll leave to you to determine.
I'm still staying in, just expressing my thoughts and reasoning.

On a side note I just thought of something. If you guys "defending" massdrop are truly doing this for their sake and not just because you want a shot at a prize, you could fund these prizes instead of massdrop and because then you would be considered a non profit entity, this would be a legal raffle. But I doubt any of you would do this. Look deep into your heart and ask yourself do you defend this for the best interest of massdrop or yourself? As for myself, I openly admit I wouldn't mind a free entry, but I would hate it if massdrop lost their business over this and I won't be reporting them. That said, I've never joined one of these grab bags because I have no use for the main items, the iems, and I wouldn't join just for that chance at a bigger prize. However, I've read complaints of others regretting participation after winning two pairs of the cheapest earbuds and it only takes one disgruntled customer to report them. Therefore, my primary concern now is to make sure massdrop knows what they are doing and the risks involved. And if the solution is an alternative method of entry, then it's a win-win for us all. Honestly, businesses run legal sweepstakes all the time and it helps their business. I see no reason why massdrop wouldn't do it as well. I would hate to see them get fined due to not knowing the law when it seems their intent is honest and that if they knew the law, they would have ran a legal sweepstake.

Look mate, if you were really concerned, you wouldn't be posting here with this people and instead be trying to get in direct contact with Massdrop and their legal team to go over everything. Your efforts would be best used there instead of trying to convince other people who have no say over what Massdrop does. If you are doing this in addition to posting here, then cool, but if not you're just gonna keep coming off as stubborn and someone who would be best ignored.

Great news group! We placed the order for the MEElectronics MEE What? Exclusive Grab Bag shortly after the drop ended.
MEElectronics is extremely impressed and encouraged by the success of this drop. They are currently preparing the order for shipment and want to thank the community for all your support. Due to the high volume of this drop, they will be fulfilling your orders in waves based on drop participation order.
The moment we receive confirmation regarding the shipping schedule from the vendor, we will provide you all with updated information.
Expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 7/13 or sooner if something comes up.

To add on to your comment. No there isn't a choice between the M-Duo's it clearly states in the text of the percentages that theres an "even chance between 3 different colors" Concluding that you don't choose the the color of the M-Duo's but there is an even chance that you will get any of the 3 colors listed.

I'm a little confused - will we find out the results of the draw (i.e if we 'won' any of the higher prizes) before the shipments arrive at our doors?

Yeah, hopefully the waves will consist of more than 100-200 packages at a time. I'm #1521 so it'd be nice if they did 500-1000 package waves.
