What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

For all of you that don't know, I'm from Brazil. Today I was meant to provide the exact color codes for our GB - however I couldn't get my color ring since my college administration didn't allow me to get in my dorm (even though I had the form correctly filled). My university isa Federal institution, that is currently on lockout/strike, so everything is a mess. I basically drove 180 km for nothing.
Neverthless, while I don't have the color ring in my hands, I'll leave the codes that I had previsouly chosen, long time ago, when I initially designed the keyset.
These colors can change, I'm gonna match the mockups. According to my files, these are the tones I used for the project.
> White - WW (pure white) > Blue - BFN (sky blue) > Orange - ON (vivid orange) > Black - NN (pure black) > Red - RR (vivid red)
For all of the non-standard users, I'd like to remind you that I'm currently talking with Massdrop about the following additions to the drop:
- Text legended arrow keys to the Planck kit (8 keycaps, 4 on blue and 4 on orange); - Legended Ergodox kit (full kit on blue, full kit on orange); - Non-standard bottom row for Logitech G710/Corsair Kx0 users; - 4 x 1.25u blanks (1 in each color of the drop) to the blank kit.
I apreciate your patience and support, as I'm trying to provide you everything you want.
Have a wonderful weekend!
MiTo
I am curious why you insist on using such a dark background for all your renders when you have black keys in there that are pretty much indistinguishable from the background?
The REKT keycap is one of my creations for a novelty themed pack of keycaps, so they need to be sold on the novelty pack - together with my other creations.
Regarding the black background, if you have access to any device different from your PC you're gonna see that the black keycaps are perfectly distinguishable from the black background. If you have any tablet around, or phone, give it a try and you will see. If the black keycaps are indistinguishable from the black background then your monitor is absolutely descalibrated. And that worries me a bit, because if it is descalibrated then you're having an erroneous perception regarding the blue, orange and red tones which are present in the keyset.
Many of you are reporting the background as black when it's in fact 90% grey. The keycaps are black (NN solid black). The background, is not.
I can contact the Massdrop team and provide a lighter tone for the background, if needed. Just let me know!
Thank you very much for the support and patience, we are having a wonderful buy so far!
Comparing colors on any RGB device to actual printed colors is always a challenge. Which is probably why you are waiting for color samples to confirm your color choices.
It would be nice if Signature Plastics listed Pantone equivalents, since more people have access to swatch books.
Joking, I understand your point as the color tones always bring a discussion. Unfortunately, SP do not provide Pantone colors, but at least they have color samples.
But to all of you that are concerned about tones, I'm trying to bring a "close to real" representation here. If there's anyone still hesitating because of color tones, I kindly ask you to just trust me - as I know what I'm doing.
I designed PuLSE without a color ring and the finished product is 100% exact to what I wanted it to be. Some people complained but I provided the most accurate mockups that I could possibly make, and the vast majority of the customers loved the keyset.
I will deliver something great for you to display on your keyboard (not only you, @A0.C - I'm talking to everyone here) and that's a gurantee.
