Product Description
The Swiss railway clock, an icon of horology, has become one with the Mondaine brand. The Mondaine Giant Backlight—whose name may be slightly misleading given its 42-millimeter case—is a quartz watch with the classic Mondaine aesthetic: That’s an easy-to-read dial with large black stick markers and a bright-red seconds hand Read More
It is difficult to set the time as the head on the adjustment stem is so small and barely moves out. The strap is also on the small side and it is hard to read in the dark as the under hands ilumination is not very effective.
The shortest straps I have ever seen. I asked Mondaine if they made larger ones and they said no. Nato straps don't work. Weak luminescence. Its a decent size, but even the movement gets out of whack where the minutes don't line up with the seconds within a day.
I really wanted to like this watch but it falls short in so many ways other than its iconic dial and swiss movement. The strap is so short that I have to use the last hole (my wrist is only 7.25"); the crown is so smooth and the stem mechanism so tight that it is difficult to set the time; the strap attaches so low to the case and the case is so large that it sets too high on my wrist and looks overwhelmingly comical and cumbersome. Also, I found it for the same price on Amazon and much lower on Ebay. Serious buyer's remorse on this one and no returns here at MassDrop. Will be my first and last purchase here.
A beautiful piece of swiss design, apart from the logo on the dial, which has absolutely awful letter spacing. It basically reads as "mond aine" and it's completely unacceptable for a brand that bases their watches on classic swiss typography and designs. Apart from that, it is a stunning watch with a domed crytal, looks especially good on a black nato strap and wears as large as most modern fashion watches. Overall it's one hell of an iconic watch, especially for the price.
UPDATE: It's been four days, and I haven't heard squat. The email they sent for viewing the ticket results in a dead login page - I can't even look at the ticket to see its disposition. Shady action going on here.
The watch I got is defective. When the minute hand is at 12 o'clock, the hour hand doesn't like up with a number marker. When I turn the stem to set the time, the hour hand randomly moves around - there appears to be a slipped gear inside. I contacted support, we'll see what happens.
