I stuck this mount to my wall just to test it and it was impossible to remove even with the suction lever disengaged. It ended up tearing a chunk of paint from the wall. So a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.
Concerned about the many comments on amazon reviews regarding a design flaw of this product, shown clearly in the attached pic from a very recent review (problem apparently not fixed by mfg yet?)
Today I used the suction cup to mount it to the plastic textured dash of my 2008 Dodge Caliber (it has a raised bumpy miniature triangle pattern). Once mounted it seemed pretty stable. I wiggled it back and forth to see if it would budge and it didn't. I drove into town with my Samsung Galaxy S7 in it and it did fine. From my observations I don't anticipate this thing becoming dislodged any time soon.
As far as the grip on the phone the jaws have a pretty good clamping pressure, which to me is good, I don't need my phone flying out of this thing if I hit a pothole. I had no trouble popping my phone in and out once I tightened the circular piece to lock it in place.
So in summary I am satisfied with my purchase.
rhenomThanks rhenom, really good to hear. I read another review stating that it does fit the iPhone 6s Plus but it's tight, as long as the thing will stay attached to my dash it should be great!
I have had this mount for a while (I got it 2 or 3 drops back) and haven't experienced any problems with it, but there are a few important things to note about the way I use it. 1.) I don't use it every time I get in my car, only every time I use my phone for driving navigation, which isn't all that often. 2.) My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S7, which isn't the biggest phone around and doesn't seem to stretch the jaws of the mount too far. 3.) I haven't removed it from my dashboard since I first put it there, so I can't comment on how it fares with multiple mountings.
If mine breaks as is depicted in the picture below I will mention it back here, but I don't anticipate that happening any time soon.
rhenomThe reviews I've read are all really good with a select few bringing up the spring load issue. The one variable we don't know is how it's being used. For all we know it was man handled. On another note I read that this issue was addressed. It would be nice to see a comparison between an old and revised model.
For owners of this product: how often does the phone fall out of the holder itself? I have a tendency to drive, shall we say, "spiritedly" on tight, windy roads and down some dirt paths. However, my car is a convertible and I've had some scary moments where it fell out of other holders, slid across my dash, and almost out of my car.
Dr.McCoyI can now add an update to my previous statement about this product. I've recently upgraded to the iPhone 7 Plus. Much larger than my previous phone. It's a little tighter to fit in the car mount, but it does fit, and still have no problems with it falling out.
So, I've been thinking that some of these products that keep coming back and I'm interested in, but not so much that I want to buy it at the moment....it would be nice to see the historical prices of previous rounds of drops.
