The Swedish-made Morakniv Companion Heavy Duty isn’t the lightest knife on the market. But at 4.1 inches long and more than 3 millimeters thick, the carbon steel blade is tougher than most knives in its weight class Read More
Sorry if this is kind of a noob question, but since this is a carbon steel knife that mean it rusts, right? So how would you keep it from rusting? I just sounds weird that you would have to oil or maintain a survival knife.
ephyoosecayNo, not full tang. About 3/4 of the way. Don't let it deter you though, these knives are awesome and there are plenty of youtube reviews (even with cut aways) that say this knife is worth the 10$
Thanks for the information. I have a victorinox knife and overall it does the job but requires a lot of sharpening to maintain its edge. On the subject of sharpening, can you recommend a good sharpening tool or system that isn't extravagantly expensive? Thanks again.
I_love_stuffIf you end up getting this knife it can easily be sharpened using any flat, abrasive surface, such as sandpaper glued to a wooden board. Simply work the entire bevel (no need to worry about sharpening angles). See https://www.ragweedforge.com/scanshrp.html for more details.
I heard back from Julian@ Massdrop "Due to additional scrutiny and increased seizures at customs the Morakniv drop will be limited to members within the US. " and it looks to me like a generic reply. We are talking shipping to New Zealand, we never have had issues ..,. and a lot of hunting and fishing happens in New Zealand. Besides Massdrop policy states that shipping to New Zealand is fine https://helpdesk.massdrop.com/hc/en-us/articles/216782468-Can-Massdrop-ship-knives-internationally-
GdemersJust a note, the linked knife is the Morakniv Companion with a 2 mm thick blade while this knife is the Morakniv Companion HD with a 3 mm thick blade.
BlackDogThat is right... the link that Gdemers provided is not the "HD" Companion... On Prime Amazon, the Companion HD green color is listed at $18.88, and the orange color is listed at $19.16. That's a total of $38.04, PLUS sales tax... Massdrop is at $28.74, delivered. I would say Massdrop has a pretty good deal.
CoreyRthe one on amazon that's a buck cheaper is just a SS blade. this is the heavy duty model. Assuming you have prime, this is $1.71 cheaper than amazon.
Shipping was $1.99 on the recent Companion MG drop. Almost double the shipping a couple weeks later for a knife that is 0.9oz/25grams heavier and 0.3" longer yet otherwise identical?? Doesn't make sense.
Other companies are charging more for the knife plus more for shipping - so yes, still a good deal and I am getting at least one.
@ Menial: If your address is inside CONUS, then $9.42 is outrageous when a USPS 2-Day Priority Mail Small Flat Rate box (which will fit up to 2 Mora Companions) is $5.25 for any weight to anywhere in CONUS.
love my mora. i have several much more expensive knives. The mora doesn't excel in any one category but for the price it is completely unbeatable. I've beat the hell out of it out in the woods and it resharpens quickly and asks for more.
step 1 buy mora
step 2 get fine grit sandpaper and sand spine down to 90* for firesteel use (won't work out of box for fire steel)
step 3 force a patina (I use apple cider vinegar)
step 4 enjoy!
