Is it me or do backpack companies take terrible pictures of the insides of their bags? Like they have 5 photos of the exterior of the bag, and then only 1 photo of the interior, and I can't tell what I'm looking at.
Interesting idea. A few thought though:
In my mind, an urban pack should have a quickly accessible pocket or two that can be accessed while holding the pack in the air without having to set it down as you would with this one. With this one, you would have to lay it down and spread it open, even getting the back and straps wet. If you live in the rainy NW, you would be setting it down on a wet park bench or the wet ground all the time. In the urban area I live in, that wetness might even contain human urine, sadly!
Secondly, I think a pack should not weigh more than what you plan on putting in it. Seriously at 2.8 pounds, this Is heavier than what I would be carrying around in it on most days. There are plenty of packs at half that weight that would carry as well and be plenty durable.
EndoverendYup. Might get crumpled a bit depending on what else you have in there. I keep keys, contact cases, earbuds, chargers, etc. in there. The volume is basically the top flap. There's also two mesh pockets on either side of the Y that are pretty easily accessible as well.
thh420That site has two listings for this pack, both of which are the 21L. One listing is $84 and the other is $100. The cheaper one is the older version of this pack. You can tell by looking at the interior organization pockets and laptop sleeve.
If you poke around any of the serious EDC and pack/gear groups, you'll find that this pack is highly regarded. I have one in my EDC rotation (along with a couple of Gorucks, TAD and HPG packs). What's nice about this pack is that it has a "slick" exterior (sometimes PALS/MOLLE webbing is a little much for the school/office environment). The other thing is that the tri-zip opening feature is amazing. It lets you use the pack as a top-loader or as a full opening clamshell. As far as weight goes, you do need to be mindful. This pack does not have the full featured Mystery Ranch yoke system, but it is a pretty good set of padded adjustable straps and load lifters for the price. For some, the limited internal organization is a minus, for those like me who prefer to organize with pouches, it is a plus. The pricing on this drop is actually a realistic savings - normally any pricing <$115 is considered really good.
At the price and with all those specs they didn't put a waist strap, just the chest strap? That's a bummer. In my opinion you really can't have one without the other.
JediJonI had a waist strap on my last small everyday bag, never needed it and it just got tangled in everything so I cut it off eventually. I'm glad this doesn't have a waist strap
Stu_HSince living in SoCal, I ride my bike or just skate everywhere, so the waist strap is necessary for me. Not a big thick one, like on a camping/hiking backpack. Just a normal sized strap to secure it better for when I'm in motion. It really makes a huge difference.
'urban assault' is hardly appropriate without any MOLLE attachment points.
And for real, with all the school shooting and stuff going on, is this really a good idea for marketing in the first place?
How about "nice urban bag, won't kill your classmates".
jadtexasnope- not an immigrant. As a matter of fact my lineage goes back to the colonies; how about you? Pretty weak trolling though. Pro 2nd, pro 'Murica- have a great day.
