Adding/Including Memories
I lost my dad last year (2023) and have been finding ways to include keepsakes/memories in my workstation. I've dabbled here and there with doing small woodworking projects and attempted a wrist rest from a piece of oak I picked up with him from my great uncles wood shop. I milled it to fit a 60% keyboard as I hadn't decided what keyboard I would be using it on and thought that's where most of my wrist would be in contact even typing on a full keyboard. I gave it a torched/burn appearance as I really was lost in what to do. I found an old shell casing from going hunting with my dad in my hunting pack and decided to imbed it into the end of the wrist rest so it would just have a little difference and a small story behind it as well. I have other things around my workstation from family and friends, but it just feels a little more special having worked on it and adding something small that has a memory for me to it. (Purple was my grandmothers favorite color and I have kinda now...

While advertised as IPS, they are actually using an AU Optronics made AHVA (advanced hyper viewing angle) panel. This uses IPS-like technology but isn't called IPS due to trademarks held by LG/Sharp.
These panels are known for inconsistent quality and a higher rate of defects relative to IPS and PLS panels.
Thank-you for the comment. The NX-EDG27 has been in development since before we shipped our 24" version back in 2015. AMD knew this and some industry insiders know we have been developing this monitor for a long time. One of the reasons why we never shipped the NX-EDG27 earlier is like you stated, due to issues that end users and community members reported regarding the panel - I am a pretty active community member myself so I am pretty aware.
We waited until the panel yields and manufacturing matured for the panel for these 3 main reasons:
1) To minimize the issues end users have reported regarding the panel. We are a smaller American company/brand vs other monitor vendors - so we can't risk higher than industry average RMA rates. 2) To make the FreeSync range 30hz to 144Hz and to ensure the monitor meets AMD's new stricter FreeSync Certification requirements. 3) To develop an implementation of the panel to minimize back light bleeding.
The trade off is that we are not the first to ship a monitor that use this panel type and also the monitor's bezel is not going to be thin or not a "bezel-less type design." The development of this monitor is an accumulation of ensuring we ship a good product and addressing community feed back.
Thank-you to all the helpful community members and I appreciate your feedback!
Best Regards,
Peter
If you made one of these glossy (while maintinaing FreeSync), I'd take the AHVA dive just for that :p
I always appreciate your interactions and feedback along with all the other helpful community members too. I don't think glossy panels are available yet, but if they are or if we find any we will definitely take a look at them.
Edit: Corrected model number.
I'll edit the post to correct that error.
