Product Description
Utilizing electro-capacitive key switches, the NiZ Plum Atom66 combines the silent operation of a rubber dome keyboard with the reliability and tactility of a mechanical keyboard. The construction consists of a rubber dome that houses a slider, over which is a coiled spring and a printed circuit board Read More
Groundhog Day,
35g domes just don't want to grow up to become 45g or 55g ... domes.
Some folks just don't seem to listen, people have expressed their interest in other domes countless times.
Edit: To be more specific, not asking to remove 35g, just for adding options for heavier domes!
$89.00 for electro-capacitive programmable keyboard with dampened MX-compatible sliders and thick PBT keycaps. That's insane. Giving HHKB makeover to get something similar would end up in spending ~$600.
I don't like the layout so I'll skip it but definetly interested in the same thing but regular 61 key version or collaboration with Vortex and making Pok3r with these switches. That would've been killer.
killyouThere's a minute difference in feel that if you can tell the difference then you can tell which one you like better. Topre has a very VERY distinct feel that others really replicate, but don't quite match. But once you get into different sliders, domes, and springs, then really the only thing you're choosing from the start is your beginning experience, and the case's manufacturer. Some would pay extra for it.
I've done a lot of topre/electro capacitve considering. Though I think I'll pass on any option until I am able to afford an hhkb 2 pro type-s jp in beige, then I think I'm going to be fine without them.
TaeKeyboards on YouTube posted a very comprehensive review of this board earlier today: https://youtu.be/-1vwM_PBqck
He touches on default layers, software, keycap sizing, bluetooth, backlighting, build quality and internals, and, of course, the switches.
aparezcoI received this board recently from the group buy in August. These are the new ones with the transparent housings. I don't know the differences they did to the new one, nor have any to compare to.
Supposedly the Varmilo and leopolds come out of the same factory. But I suspect that's not entirely accurate. I have the old FC660M (made in China) in mx clears and it is reasonably well built. No major twist or warp at least. But only other varmilo I have is the numpad which feels that little bit flimsy. But yeah, sample size of 1. So grain of salt and all.
The new FC660m are made in Taiwan now so I would hope they're better. The sound dampening mat is also included now, so that saves some effort too. It's slightly echoy without it. Might be worth the effort to find one to try since it seems to sastify all your wants.
How programmable is this? Are there any limitations with changing any of the bottom row keys?
Any reviews on how this might turn out with a dome swap? How smooth will they feel after the collapse?
I do love this layout, but 35g is too light for me.
I now have the Plum87 w/ the optional springs installed and Jessica GMK Plum keycaps sitting next to the HHKB. The Plum represents itself very well, the action is slightly lighter, but not by much. The springs give the Plum a solid boost from 35g, but still just a bit shy of the HHKB's 45g. The Plum actually has a lower pitch thunk and is a bit quieter than the HHKB. The HHKB has a bit of that higher pitched clack that you get with Cherry switches.
Now that I finally have an HHKB Pro 2 on my desk, I'm still very impressed with the quality of the Plum keyboards and their EC switches. .. especially for the price.
