Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. Because each row has a unique keycap shape, alt layouts require a unique keycap for each legend that moves off its QWERTY row. What's really cool and unmatched is the programming ability once you find the software hidden deep in the internet. The keycaps are "standard" sized, I simply put my Vortex PBT Doubleshots on the keyboard. The stock caps have an odd profile and terrible font.
But what really really breaks the deal with this keyboard are two major issues:
Connector: this keyboard has an apple lightning style plug and comes with a matching cable. No other lightning cables work ! Apple or mfi cables WILL NOT WORK and you are stuck with the flimsy crappy cable that came with the keyboard. Epic fail - so much wasted potential.
Compatibility: I wanted to take this keyboard with me when seeing customers and it's ideal for that due to the compact size and layout. But I just couldn't make it work properly with the thin clients at my main customer site. Occasionally a keypress was recognized and toggling though USB modes and Mouse settings didn't help at all. The keyboard did work fine with my pc at home and other compact keyboard work flawlessly with the thin clients (poker 3, pure pro)
I was very sorry this keyboard turned out to be such a disapointment. So much potential ...
have to agree on the connector though, gonna see how camera connection cables (Female USB to lightning) work with the keyboard
Oh and if that's cherry profile, I have to reconsider my skidata+ pledge...
Which I agree with
I have tried a lightning to usb connector cable (since that was the only thing someone said he hasn't tried yet) and it didn't work either.
I'll probably try to route the connectors in a way to mount a mini usb instead of the lightning connector
