Years ago (before NuForce was acquired by Optoma), NuForce used to offer an upgraded linear power supply for the Icon HDP. I havent seen it for a long time, but a number of owners including myself use the TeraDak LPS for the Icon HDP (http://home.teradak.com/products/71.html). I think it may also be referenced in the 6moons review. It’s subjective if course, but I think it gives a more muscular sound, especially with planars, which often demand a lot of current. Finally, if your original switching power supply has failed, this is a no brainer instead of buying a new one from Optoma or fighting with drop to replace it. (In any case I wouldn’t waste time fighting with drop. Over the years Optoma has treated me well when my unit has required repairs due to user-caused damage.)
I don't know what I did, but over time, it started sounding worse than my laptop's on-board 3.5 jack. Sounded pretty good a few months ago but now it just makes everything sound super compressed. Maybe it's a software issue? I have no idea
EDIT:
Seems okay now... I run my desktop speakers through it and all seems good.
I bought a set of Vanatoo T Zeroes for my computer. They are powered and even have a built-in DAC. Would this unit be an upgrade, DAC wise?
My wife wants a headphone plug and I am curious how this DAC would play with my Vanatoo?
I believe there is ample evidence to suggest the design for this DAC/Amp was, at least in part, inspired by a popular Olivia Newton John song from eighties--you be the judge:
"Let's get vertical, vertical I want to get vertical Let's get into vertical Let me hear your body talk, your body talk Let me hear your body talk.."
Heyo.
I need to get a replacement for my Topping MX3 that use for my PC for gaming and music.
Is this a good alternative? Any issues with these?
Would you do this, the Topping DX3 pro, or a FiiO K5 Pro?
Hi,
having been left a hoard of vinyl & planing on purchasing a TT (Fluance RT85 - no preamp) around Black Friday, I'm curious if I could use this as a stopgap phono preamp untill I research further & a get a dedicated one?
Thank you.
Am in two minds of which amp/dac to buy this one or "Topping DX3 Pro" which is priced around the similar point at this moment. Any suggestions would be better for music/gaming?
