Product Description
Boasting all the features one could want from a modern digital audio player, the Opus #3 has a well-regarded Burr-Brown PCM1792A DAC chip, an ARM Cortex-A9 1.4GHz quad-core CPU, and 1 GB of DDR3. That means it can handle running Android with ease, and the inclusion of Wi-Fi capability allows you to use streaming applications like Spotify and Tidal Read More

"That means it can handle running Android with ease" Goes on to not have any mention if it actually comes with Android in stalled, and if so what version.

Guys, as I understand it, this drop does not include the original leather case. Who knows, can I buy it somewhere today?
Has there ever been any other description that you've seen anywhere to describe the Burr-Brown chip other than "well regarded?" It's beginning to look like that's actually part of the official chip name.
"1 GB of DDR3. That means it can handle running Android with ease." Yeah, 10 years ago. That ought to give you some idea of the version of Android that this is running.

HiBy R5, are you serious? In terms of sound level, R5 is far behind Opus#3 and I don’t even consider it just for that. At the expense of the relevance of the information on Drop I agree with you. But I don't think this is a big problem. Who is interested in such devices and so in the know what they are.
KauenUnfortunately some don't. This is the sweet spot price wise for someone who is looking for their entry point to the world of hi res music. I don't have a problem with the specs provided there's an accurate description of what they actually are because those considering jumping in sometimes don't know what they don't know. The description on Drop is not representative of what this is which is player that made it's debut long time ago and the description makes it sound like it's current and just zips through Android tasks.

After owning it for more than a year I have to say... this player (and likely other players from this company) is most likely to be avoided. Sound quality is great - all I could possibly wish for from portable player. Battery life is not so great - but that is to be expected with high quality DAC that runs hot and is rarely used in portable players for that reason. Want good battery life - get MP3 player like Cowon Plenue D, and its battery lasts forever. But sound quality is much, much worse (I own it as well, and compared them side to side, they are not in the same league). So, what's not to love? Issue with Oppo is reliability. From the very beginning player would occasionally spontaneously reboot. First, it was once a month - not really an issue. Then, once a week - a bit annoying. Now that is multiple times per day - totally annoying. Yes, I tried factory reset multiple times. Yes, I tried removing memory card. Yes, I tried putting music only on internal memory, or only on memory card. Does not matter what I do. Sometimes player reboots kinda in the middle of factory reset :) Sometimes player complains after reboot that 'there is not enough storage left' for OS needs - that is when 90% of storage is empty. It suffers from some kind of hardware failure, and based on complaints from others, it seems to be fairly common. Pity, since sound quality is superb, and short battery life is a reasonable compromise to get that level of sound quality. On the upside - almost a year ago I have contributed patch to linux kernel adding 'native DSD' support for this player when used as a computer's DAC (probably adding dsd support for other Oppo players as well), and now that functionality is available from all modern linux distributions ... so again, if player was not spontaneously rebooting, it would be quite nice DAC/amp...

Are there any DAPs nowadays for under $200 that are robust and have physical controls for volume and playback? (By physical I mean tactile and not capacitive. I want to control the player by feeling it, not by looking at it.) I don't care much about storage capacity, DAC-only modes, streaming capability, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or high sound quality. I was considering this Opus #3 player but have declined due to many users reporting it isn't robust. Its capabilities are also total overkill for my needs.

MountainPassNo Chi-fi? The Cowon Plenue D is still a very solid option, praised by many, solid as a rock, a 50 hours battery life with Hi-Res music, and only $176 in Amazon. Mind, it can only accept one 128GB SD card because of software shenanigans. Otherwise a pretty solid buy for somebody who doesn't want all the bells and whistles. Chi-fi?The IBasso DX120 is another solid option, more powerful and better sounding, howver, the battery life only approaches ~15 hours Hi-Res, and its $300.
