hi people. who is interested in adding file deletion and rewind functions to the new firmware?
Some time ago I liked Opus #1, next models did not feel so exciting.
Does having only 1 GB make Tidal sluggish?
I would love opinions to the following question... In the day of the ubiquitous cell phone, what is the point of a dedicated DAP? More specifically, I have an LG V30 (great Quad DAC chips, good amp), and I have two separate DAC/amps (iFi xDsD and Hidizs DH1000) if I want higher power, balanced, etc... I never go anywhere without at least my phone... I stream everything from Tidal, but also have a 256GB SD card if storage were an issue. Under what circumstances is a DAP relevant in general? In my situation is there a reason to go for something like this drop. I am serious in asking that... I have had my eye on this one in the past, but always come back to "WHY?"

I agree. I'm perfectly happy with FLAC. I think the only niche thing I demand is 2.5mm balanced output. But I've definitely seen people use DSD to justify their purchases. Do you remember how you played the files? Last I checked, there was no way to play DSD on Android.

Loaded the files onto the v30 from a site (will have to look it up). Connected the v30 to the iFi xDSD via USB on the go connector. I believe that I then played the file using the native LG player through the xDSD. But it has been a while. I will play with it some more and edit this response if I find anything written is not correct.
$450 and only one SD card slot? This thing seems inferior to a DAP I purchased for $300 less.
I have the Opus#2 and simply love the devise. the few flac files I have in my library sound wonderful, but even my mp3 files sound great on this thing. I stream Tidal and Apple music which both also sound wonderful. The EQ is a nice touch, but the response is not instant - leaving you thinking that no change has occurred. The only things that I would like to see improve on my Opus#2 are the UI which is counter intuitive, wifi which is dismally slow and file transfer - there's got to be a better way than android file transfer or Handshaker

I own Opus#2 since 2 years and fully agree with you. One of the best sounding DAPs on the market with few minor issues as you have stated.
Why is android based DAPs a thing? Like what is the advantage over a dedicated os? I have been trying to look around online but cant find much info.

If you don't need streaming, look at something like the iBasso 120. Handles 2 400gb SD cards with ease, and sounds great. Plus cheaper.

  1. offline 3rd party music subscription apps. IE A&K can stream Tidal, but won't allow you to download for offline playback. There's a restriction imposed by the music labels on this. However, if you can install an approved app from google play store, you can.
  2. it's open source and an easy platform to develop from. Even if you're not going to allow 3rd party apps, the base code is easier to mould than making one from scratch.
Just my thoughts....I, in no way, speak with any authority on this.
So for us folks who listen to tidal or other streaming services in 44.1 khz , this fails to the hiby R6 unfortunately. Unless this too avoids sample rate conversion in Android.

How is battery life?
Why is it always my job to add the Specs MD's category managers are too lazy to list?!! W: 2.9" H: 4.6" D: 0.7" Weight: 7.76 ounces
Note to MD: from now on I'm charging--my rate is $90/hr with a two hour minimum.

Man, you are cheap. I wouldn't even open my laptop without $250/hr. He! He!

That was my special “come-on” offer ;- )
1Gb ram? lol bad... Just get a Hiby R6 and streaming whatever you want
Still baffles me that a DAP would require android... that just wastes battery and makes the device more resource hungry making it more expensive.

Thanks!
I just want to say thank you once again. I followed your advice and picked up a refurbished V20 from Amazon for under $200. I also bought a 400 gb micro SD card. This is a great digital audio player! No need for the more or much more expensive options out there. I have recommended it to several friends. Best wishes!
whats the battery life like?

I just simply listen to music too. I haven't tried using it non stop with absolutely no screen time at all though. Maybe if I did then I would be able to get close to 8 hours but for me that's impossible to do. Every now and then I need to turn the screen on because I'm in the mood for a certain playlist or a specific song. Even then I still barely use the screen though. I was burning in one of my headphones and started with a full battery. Eventually it died; didn't notice right away when it happened so can't get an exact estimate but it lasted somewhere between 6-6.5 hours I think. Maybe 7 max. I got mine second hand so maybe it's due to age?...
edit: I only listed 5-5.5 hours in my original post because I figured the average person would probably be flipping though playlists/songs every now and then too. Also, I don't know if it matters that much but I listen to it on high gain.

Just wanted to update: turns out the battery on my unit wasn't in the best of shape. Contacted TheBit about issues I was having with my #2 and the y recommended I send it in to replace the battery. Not for sure yet if this will drastically improve battery life from what I was experiencing before, but just wanted to update this thread to let people know the figures I stated are more than likely not accurate to what you should expect. I'll update when I get mine back with (hopefully) better figures.
i wish for Opus #2 :(
The next drop for me! :'(
