Clearly, the best $95 I’ve ever spent (on a watch, anyway). It turns out to be far more versatile than I imagined. Dig it here on an orange gator rally from Clockwork Synergy with a linen shirt and some contrasting wood beads. As an added plus, this little monster has been running about +.5!
jimbo60640That strap looks great! Not sure I like the watch sitting next to the beads though; I'd move them to the other hand personally, but each to their own. :)
SmithyNZThanks. It does look kinda snazzy, doesn’t it?! Had my doubts until I actually tried it.
As for the beads, thanks for your concern, but fear not; they’re soft wood and don’t leave a trace.
Cheers....
Well first impression are great, pretty solid, built quality looks and feels ok, lets put it to some use and daily regular usage and see how it behave, just see if it worthy of the 5 stars review
Since when can you get an automatic movement sapphire glass watch for around $100? That's unheard of. And it looks very classy at that. It can be a dress watch for sure. Tremendous value here.
Great value for a great automatic watch. I wear this as a casual watch and for work. Looks great as well. I wear my black leather Tissot more often, but I wanted a brown band light faced watch as well and this fit the budget. No issues or complaints. Seems to be just as accurate as my Swiss automatic at a fraction of the price.
My Symphony Gen II arrived today. Some first impressions:
Number one, very nice box. Once opening the white cardboard box, inside is a very sturdy black box with what feels like a metal insert in the lid with the Orient emblem printed on it. The lid has rivets on the four corners. Again, feels sturdy.
The watch itself matches the images from the drop. I purchased the silver dial version. I have a more extensive description in the Discussions dated 20 Mar. All the features a noted there are truly present in the real thing.
It is quite light for its size 41 X 12 mm), and a bit larger than most of the watches I've had to this time, but it wears quite comfortably. I also think the chapter ring, having a bevel rather than being flat, gives an optical illusion of being a bit smaller than it actually is.
Finally, first impression of the strap. Much darker brown than I inferred from the images in the drop. I intended to replace it with a black strap with white stitching to match the dial. I still will likely do that because while genuine leather, the finish is very shiny and looks/feels cheap, if not fake. That's why it's four starts instead of five.
Still, I'll be looking more at the watch than the strap. Given the price for a mechanical movement and sapphire crystals (front and dsiplay back), it was quite a deal. Perhaps I will follow up with another review after spending some time (see what I did there?) with my new acquisition.
This is my second Orient purchase, the first being a Bambino. The Symphony with the black dial and classic silver hour markes make this a sophisicated looking time piece. The larger dial makes for a more contemporary appearance and does not detract from the watches overall appearance. The watch keeps accurate time, the movement is non hacking and non-winding, which to some is a draw back but, to me, not a deal breaker. The watch band is a little over the top for me but I have ordered a more suttle stainless steel band which will ensure much more wrist time. Overall very pleasee with the purchase.
