Product Description
This belt comes from Orion Leather Company, a group of skilled craftsmen based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It’s made from a single piece of vegetable-tanned harness leather with burnished natural edges and a narrower 1 ⅜-inch width Read More
I learned you were supposed to size up one with belts, but nowadays I read all sorts of crazy things. Many think you should order your normal pants size and some retailers even believe that. Sizing up usually works out for me, but there have been times when it didn't and it was usually because the belts are sized up for you already.
Anyhow, I think you're exactly right about proper belt sizing and Orion seems to agree, too. I just don't want anyone to think everyone does it the right way, because some retailers, and manufacturers, don't. It's unfortunate, but not all retailers/manufacturers size belts properly.
JenkinssSize up from pants size. Also consider whether you wear your belt pulled tight or wether you prefer a slight snug fit.
Another thing to consider is whether it's jeans or dress pants. Typically they ride differently along the waist. So this also has an effect. Best thing to do is measure a belt that you currently have from the fold at the buckle end to the hole that you use the most. What ever that measurement is in inches will be your exact size.
Just received mine. Ordered a 36, 2" larger than the 34 waist I usually wear in pants, per the strong recommendation in the description (see the sizing note). Fit is spot on.
The only insignificant negative: There is no brand insignia anywhere. I was hoping there would be something on the inside of the belt with a logo or whatever (hey, it adds value to me).
The belt itself is extremely well-constructed and feels like it will hold up for 10 years +. The buckle is above average, unlike some other recent drops *coughbritishbeltcostrattoncough* and will serve its purpose until it needs to be replaced, which quite possibly will be never.
Yeah, $40 is somewhat expensive for a belt, but this is a true BIFL scenario. No regrets whatsoever. Cheers.
Just got my second notice of a delay in shipping my order. No real detail. I don’t think I want to cancel but at this rate...
what is is actually happening?
StrejlePlease, contact Orion Leather directly, they will replace it free of charge. They do have a warranty on all the belts against manufacturing defects, and this one was just a bit too wide for the buckle, which counts as a manufacturing defect.
StrejleThis looks like the strap was a little wide to fit properly on the buckle, so when you slide the belt through to buckle, it creases on the sides. This is a mistake on our part. If you could please contact us directly at info@orionleathercompany.com, and provide your Massdrop proof of purchase, we will replace the belt for you.
@OrionLeatherCo Just got it, some weird marks near one of the belt holes but whatever, this will be the belt hole I will use the most anyway.
One thing that stands out though, is it supposed to be so stiff out of the box? It's not even the creaking and squeaking it does when I put it on, it creaks as I walk.
JenkinssHarness leather is a pretty stiff one, so the creaking is perfectly normal. After you wear it a few times, the leather will start breaking in and softening, and the squeaking will go away. The full breaking in process can take a little while, depending on a particular piece of leather, the climate you live in, how often you wear the belt, etc. Eventually, and usually it takes a few weeks to sometimes a few months, the leather will completely mold itself to the shape of your body and become soft and pliable. But for the get-go, Harness is a stiff, tight-grained leather. If you want to speed up the breaking in process, we recommend using a conditioner. It's a good idea to condition your leather every once in a while, anyway.
All 3 of mine have button snaps. Makes it... well... a snap to change buckles and loops between them, or remove a loop if you want only one. Seems like this is what they are now using on their belts, at least it's all I've seen on their website.
Would you consider making a thicker 'gun belt?' The quality reminds me of some of those, but no one makes a burgundy oxford color like you. What do you think? Look at Wild Bill's Concealment. They make belts with Chicago Screws in them, so the buckles are changeable. Go for it, your company can be like Wild Bill HIckock!
mhwolfWe are actually working on some concealed carry solutions at the moment. So far it looks like it will include a holster and a belt. Not sure if we would run it as a Massdrop drop, but it is a possibility.
