Sharing many of the same features as the company’s acclaimed Nimbus hoody, the Outdoor Research Ascendant jacket is designed for hiking, long ascents, and full days on the slopes. Weighing just under 12 ounces, its made of water- and wind-resistant Pertex Microlight fabric and stuffed with Polartec Alpha insulation. The front storm flap and YKK AquaGuard zipper lock out water without retaining moisture, while the movement-mirroring stretch fit allows for better range of motion. The integrated thumb loops prevent the sleeves from riding up during climbs or runs, while the low-profile cuffs reduce weight and minimize interference. Finally, the jacket has two hand-warmer pockets that’ll keep you toasty and a zippered chest pocket for storing small items.
