Is anybody having problems with some of the seeds? For example I can't seem to get a single peppermint seed to germinate.

halfbellstateI have several vegetable and herb sets from Patriot. Tried to grow the parsley this spring and the entire pack failed to germinate. It's the only one I've tried. A fresh pack of seed bought locally has germinated fine, and I still have most of that pack left.
Our Patriot kits are all less than 8 years old and kept in climate controlled conditions, so the seed should still be good. They turned out to be a waste of money for us because I grow a garden every year and save seed and most of what I grow is not in the Patriot kits, despite being common heirlooms.

WolverinesWell it's just some that don't grow. For me parsley was fine. Somehow the tomatoes grow flowers but not fruit. I think the climate is too hot here or something. Anyway that's what you get for natural tech free agriculture.

halfbellstateYour tomatoes are probably suffering from pollination problems, or too much nitrogen.
If they are growing flowers, those seeds are good. It's your soil or environment that is causing problems.

SteveDropI'd bet on a pollination problem this year. Thanks to the several arctic blasts this spring, there is a distinct lack of insects. I've noticed there are very few bees, ladybugs, stink bugs, and mosquitoes. I'm sure there's many other bugs that got killed off in massive numbers as well.

halfbellstateYes, they're crap. Germination rates are extremely poor.

SteveDropMy response was to halfbellstate, who posted: "For example I can't seem to get a single peppermint seed to germinate." Sounds like a germination problem to me! Before you post directions on how to read, you should make sure you're up to speed yourself - who I was responding to is quite clear in my post (it's in a little lozenge or cartouche at the start of my post), and you come off both stupid and needlessly rude.

And yet I'm by no means the only person reporting that germination rates are poor. Clearly someone forgot to inform my allotment that I have no gardening experience!
