Hey everyone,
Wanted to give a quick update and offer our apologies for the delay on this drop. Our warehouse has been doing an inventory count that has taken longer than expected. Unfortunately, that has resulted in a delay getting drops out the door. We're looking to be back on track by early next week though and should have the backlog resolved. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to our support team.
Jaysun
EDIT: Got a shipping label from Massdrop on a Sunday.. apparently these are beginning to ship out? will keep my drop and cancel the peakdesign.com order.
--- I'm going to have to cancel my participation in this drop. The email from Massdrop indicated a longer turnaround time than what you suggest.
Ended up ordering directly from Peak Design's website, paying $59.90, fast shipping and free accessory. (used $10 referral code + free gift promo)
For reference, this is the email I received from Massdrop: "Due to an unexpected delay, these orders may ship later than the original estimated ship date. Our apologies for any inconvenience. If we find that the drop is going to be delayed by more than 30 days, we will let you know."
Any news on these?
Is it me or does this look like a disaster waiting to happen? This does not look sturdy or comfortable at all! All I can see is a $3K camera tumbling to the ground with those attachments!
Detex
I have a couple pieces of their gear and it's all built like a tank. Those tabs can supposedly hold 200 lbs each. I haven't tempted it's Max end but can tell you that the thicker strap can hold an 80D, 24-70 2.8 L II and a 50 lbs Pittbull with a kissing addiction. I've handled the leash strap and it's made from the same seatbelt type material, unless you've got a setup in excess of 50 lbs on the end of it I wouldn't be worried about the strap giving out before your body does.
Detex
Those attachments (at least the ones I've got on my dslr and mirrorless rigs) are surprisingly sturdy. The threads are kevlar reinforced, so...not your normal nylon or polyester thread. I've used mine for years now, as I ordered direct from PD in one of the early releases of the leash product. Good stuff.
I have one of these from a previous drop, I got the blue one and its pretty nice. A thing is that the rubber reinforced part of the strip can be a little bit too stiff.
What do you guys think about a leash for a Fuji XT-2?
Mezz
I asked the Peak Design twitter folks if the leash was a good choice for DX / FX traditional DSLRs and they said that the leash is really best for mirrorless, so leash or SlideLITE is probably what you're looking for!
Mezz
I use a Slide Lite on my X-T2 and actually just bought the Leash last night. I really like the Slide Lite, but I picked up the leash for when I'm using a smaller lens or when I'm packing it into a little bag. The Slide is a tiny bit hard to fold up and takes up more room than I'd like sometimes, so I'm grabbing this as my alternative.
Disappointing that the new leash/cuff are basically the same price as Amazon, except with much slower shipping :( Oh well, I guess it makes sense since they are brand new!

Yes, but that is the old Leash and Cuff not the 2017 versions we are selling.
Oh, sorry, I didn't mean leash/cuff as in leash AND cuff, but rather leash OR cuff. I'm not looking to buy both together, but only the leash or the cuff. Going off that price, Amazon comes in at about $3 more, but with two day shipping. Again, though, considering the Leash was literally released last month, a $3 discount is not a bad deal at all. I'm just impatient :).
Are these all the new gear, with the new attachment anchors? I see the new Leash and Cuff, which I'm super hyped for.
PraxisCat
These will be the latest versions available.
Jaysun
Great, thanks! I know v1 of the anchors had fraying issues, but was unsure whether or not these would be v2 or v3, thanks for the speedy response!
Anyone know if this system could be modded to be compatible with the bgrip uno? Or if there is a similar strap that is compatible with the bgrip uno?
Smallchangerain
This attaches directly to your camera eyelets, so it should be fine. If it's the new attachment anchors, then they should be thin enough to fit under the Uno's quick release plate.
Smallchangerain
I didn't know wha the Bgrip system was and had to look it up. Yes this should work fine with it, if your connecting the strap to the plate. You are using a swiss arca setup.
what happened to this drop? I thought it went live a few weeks ago??

It *did* go live, for some Massdrop anniversary. I was in on it, and then it dropped off the face of the planet.
giolee88
The drop is live once again...don't miss out!
Everything I ever ordered directly from peak design shipped free. This is the breaking point with massdrop. With the almost 20% shipping fee you're charging there is no point to ordering it with you. If you need to charge a fee for administration then just be upfront.
These make great shoulder straps for bags as well. I put one on my old Domke FX5B, since I don't care for the strap that came with it.
Are these the original or the revised models?
Nickaroo
These are the most recent models.
I bought one of these from MD a long time ago and it was awesome. I liked not using a strap, but sometimes you just need to have one and this product was a great medium between the two. I lost the strap before I could use it a second time though, I have no idea what happened to it lol.
I use a spyderpro holster to carry my camera. The vast majority of time there is no weight on my shoulders w/ a holster rig. I *do* use a Peak Design *leash* for 2ndary restraint, just to keep the camera from hitting the ground if I lose my grip or something. So, while I didn't recommend the Peak Design capture system, I do recommend the leash strap. Its much more unobtrusive than a full-size strap. I find the 45mm spec superfluous--overly thick, since it is not bearing weight most of the time.
I *love* the connection mechanism...very well thought out, and simple to operate.
The cuff is also a slick addition too, and (if I didn't lose mine) I find it nice to be able to free up both hands on the fly for futzing with polarizers, & what not.
FYI, this slide has HIDEOUS grip tape on the OUTSIDE of the strap that is not shown in these photos. My recommendation is to only buy in black.
Are the other links for the strap polymer?
Likes: comfortable strap (wide), flexibility of connections and strap positions. Dislikes: large footprint of connection plate which covers my battery compartment - Black Rapid is just a screw. Does not stay behind my back when moving - flops around too much. When I lean forward the camera comes swinging forward.
All things being considered - it is on my primary camera (Fuji XT1) and the Black Rapid strap is on my backup camera (Canon 7D).
No shipment to other parts of the world again.
Great strap! Note that the adjustment strap is friction based and tends to loosen if you're walking around a lot with a heavy camera.
Dissapointed there is no shipping to Aus, otherwise I would have bought a slideLite.
I have the leash and it's a great well featured strap if you want something super lite. I use it while bush walking along with the Capture clip.
I cannot recommend this strap enough. I bought the Slide (regular) and loved it immediately. I use a Nikon D3300, which is a pretty small DSLR, so it was a bit too big for me, though; I returned it and got a Slide Lite, as I knew I wanted some variant of it. That said, I do have a Sigma 18-35 lens, which is heavier than the camera itself at almost 2lbs. The Slide Lite is absolutely perfect for this combo, and is very comfortable. I've been using it for about 6 months and have found it to be super durable, easy to put on/take off, and it really distributes the weight of that lens well. The quick release system is also fantastic for when I want to switch how I wear the strap, or store it somewhere that won't fit with it attached. I generally keep it like a sling, but have occasionally used it as a traditional around-the-neck strap. And the slide system, of course, is superb. Just flip the metal latch and you can adjust the length of either side.
One thing I want to caution is that the base plate of this will be a bit annoying if you don't have an Arca swiss/QR tripod. I had to remove the plate whenever I wanted to use my tripod, and ultimately ended up spending money on an Arca head.
If you shoot on an entry-level DSLR, I'd say to go with the Slide Lite vs. the Slide. Even though it's marketed for Mirrorless, it is a perfect fit for the entry-level DSLRs. I hope to some day pick up the capture clip too, since I've been so impressed by this product and their Everyday Backpack.
No love for Canadians eh?.
I wish shipping wasn't so expensive. It essentially turns out to be a $10-$15 savings, which, given the time you have to wait for this to ship, doesn't seem that much better than just ordering on Amazon using Prime.
Hodie
It's actually just a $5 savings for me due to tax.
I don't need another one of these, but let me say that they are fantastic. I've owned mine since mid 2016 and it's still going strong and looking great. You might think to yourself "Whatever, it's just a strap" - but it's WORLDS ahead of the included camera strap and the ability to easily remove it is so great since I split my time between stills and video (and you really don't want a strap on your camera when you do video).
There was a recall for this model due to some failures (http://petapixel.com/2014/09/17/peak-design-strap-failures-causing-dropped-cameras-photographers/). Can we be sure that what will be delivered is from the new and fixed batch?
mikey_s
These will be the latest models that are free from defects.
The issue for the recall you are referencing (9/17/2014)was taken very seriously and resolved by Peak Design almost immediately by sending out replacement kits (10/23/2014) and retooling the product altogether.
This is another example of how Peak Design has and still continues to work closely with its users to ensure all PD products work above and beyond expectations.
Jaysun
I'm just making sure since it happened more than once that the defective product was still on the shelves of popular stores, one year later.
Any chance of adding the Slide Lite to the drop?
riido
I'd also really like a slide lite, this one is too much for my little mirrorless camera
If you purchased this from MD, you can go on www.peakdesign.com/register and sign up fot the lifetime warranty and also take a short survey to receive a $10 credit for a purchase from them directly.
