Hey everyone,
Wanted to give a quick update and offer our apologies for the delay on this drop. Our warehouse has been doing an inventory count that has taken longer than expected. Unfortunately, that has resulted in a delay getting drops out the door. We're looking to be back on track by early next week though and should have the backlog resolved. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to our support team.
JaysunEDIT: Got a shipping label from Massdrop on a Sunday.. apparently these are beginning to ship out?
will keep my drop and cancel the peakdesign.com order.
---
I'm going to have to cancel my participation in this drop. The email from Massdrop indicated a longer turnaround time than what you suggest.
Ended up ordering directly from Peak Design's website, paying $59.90, fast shipping and free accessory.
(used $10 referral code + free gift promo)
For reference, this is the email I received from Massdrop:
"Due to an unexpected delay, these orders may ship later than the original estimated ship date. Our apologies for any inconvenience. If we find that the drop is going to be delayed by more than 30 days, we will let you know."
Is it me or does this look like a disaster waiting to happen? This does not look sturdy or comfortable at all! All I can see is a $3K camera tumbling to the ground with those attachments!
DetexI have a couple pieces of their gear and it's all built like a tank. Those tabs can supposedly hold 200 lbs each. I haven't tempted it's Max end but can tell you that the thicker strap can hold an 80D, 24-70 2.8 L II and a 50 lbs Pittbull with a kissing addiction. I've handled the leash strap and it's made from the same seatbelt type material, unless you've got a setup in excess of 50 lbs on the end of it I wouldn't be worried about the strap giving out before your body does.
DetexThose attachments (at least the ones I've got on my dslr and mirrorless rigs) are surprisingly sturdy. The threads are kevlar reinforced, so...not your normal nylon or polyester thread. I've used mine for years now, as I ordered direct from PD in one of the early releases of the leash product. Good stuff.
I have one of these from a previous drop, I got the blue one and its pretty nice. A thing is that the rubber reinforced part of the strip can be a little bit too stiff.
MezzI asked the Peak Design twitter folks if the leash was a good choice for DX / FX traditional DSLRs and they said that the leash is really best for mirrorless, so leash or SlideLITE is probably what you're looking for!
MezzI use a Slide Lite on my X-T2 and actually just bought the Leash last night. I really like the Slide Lite, but I picked up the leash for when I'm using a smaller lens or when I'm packing it into a little bag. The Slide is a tiny bit hard to fold up and takes up more room than I'd like sometimes, so I'm grabbing this as my alternative.
Disappointing that the new leash/cuff are basically the same price as Amazon, except with much slower shipping :( Oh well, I guess it makes sense since they are brand new!
Oh, sorry, I didn't mean leash/cuff as in leash AND cuff, but rather leash OR cuff. I'm not looking to buy both together, but only the leash or the cuff. Going off that price, Amazon comes in at about $3 more, but with two day shipping. Again, though, considering the Leash was literally released last month, a $3 discount is not a bad deal at all. I'm just impatient :).
JaysunGreat, thanks! I know v1 of the anchors had fraying issues, but was unsure whether or not these would be v2 or v3, thanks for the speedy response!
SmallchangerainThis attaches directly to your camera eyelets, so it should be fine. If it's the new attachment anchors, then they should be thin enough to fit under the Uno's quick release plate.
SmallchangerainI didn't know wha the Bgrip system was and had to look it up. Yes this should work fine with it, if your connecting the strap to the plate. You are using a swiss arca setup.
Everything I ever ordered directly from peak design shipped free. This is the breaking point with massdrop. With the almost 20% shipping fee you're charging there is no point to ordering it with you. If you need to charge a fee for administration then just be upfront.
