What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

This is a little different than what we described earlier - it looks like the purple cases were moved up ahead of the clears. The black and clear bottoms will take a little longer than our projected completion date, and that's mostly due to the fact that this is the first run that Massdrop is fulfilling, and my suppliers getting used to what all's needed for that - we're trying to minimize the amount of work that Massdrop will need to do at the warehouse so they can ship things out quickly.
The PCBs are completed and programmed, and are being packaged now - these too are taking a little longer than expected, partially because of the packaging for the warehouse, but also because the quote we got when arranging things didn't take into account the programming (approving the first articles and everything), and the custom packaging. All of the PCBs will be done by 6/24, but that includes the Planck and the Preonic, and the ones I'm getting for the store, which are a lower priority than the ones Massdrop is receiving - in fact, they've already gotten 300 of the Planck PCBs!
Thanks for your patience! All in all, things are moving much smoother than last run, and once all the parts come in, the shipping should go much faster than when I was doing it :)"
