Neodymium Magnets
The magnets that comprise the POLAR Pen are neodymium based, N32 rated rare earth magnets coated with nickel to protect their delicate core from fracturing. Neodymium magnets can be up to 10 times stronger than ceramic magnets, making them the strongest magnets commercially available, while also remaining abundant. The high remanence and coercivity of neodymium makes it an effective heart of the POLAR Pen. When treated with TLC, high quality magnets like those used in the POLAR have a shelf life of over 10,000 years.
Countless Configurations
The modular system comes with all of the components necessary to construct the pen, while also offering the opportunity for tinkering around. The magnets are axial and polar, so they will push, pull, and stick together. This means that they can be chained together to create a compass for perfect circles, build simple gyroscopes, assemble perpetual motion devices, and even operate- with the help of copper wire and a small battery- as an electromagnet.
