Hey folks - just jumping into the thread to say hello! Please be sure to read the sizing instructions as we measure our belts differently from other makers.
Let me know if you have any questions, happy to answer them here. I've been wearing this belt for the last 4 weeks.
@RyanPopoff Can you confirm that this Drop actually uses vanity sizing (pants size, not belt size) like the description says? On the Popov site, it appears you ask for the belt size directly. For example, if I'm a 30" waist in most pant sizes, should I order a 30 (like the Drop description says) or a 32 (like your normal sales site says)?
mcdonutsAlso, if you (or anyone else) has issues with belt sizing, you can reach out to us directly to resolve it. We will exchange belts that don't fit properly as long as they're in good condition.
If you're a 30" waist, order a 30" belt for this Drop.
aggaggDriftwood is Natural CXL 😉 But I think you mean veg tan, that patinas dramatically. We did work with veg tan for a while, but found it was too difficult to keep consistent and clean in a very busy workshop. Maybe in the future as a one-off!
Awesome belt!
Can you provide actual measurements for the belt? I know my actual measured belt size and would like to be more precise than vanity sizes that vary from clothes maker.
Yes. They size it according to the pants you wear. I wear a 38 waist pants and I own the 38 size belt and it's perfect. Good quality stuff. Love the belt.
People, these belts are unbelievable. They feel right out of the box like they've been worn for years. I've purchased many nice belts here on MD and these are the best by far! Purchase by the case!
I hope Ryan Popov is still monitoring this comment thread. I need to know just how "heavy duty" this belt is? Would it suffice as a gun belt without sagging/folding over time? Will it handle large camp knives without sagging/folding? I have a very good gun gun belt, but it's close to 15 years old, and after being worn nearly every waking minute of every day during that time, it's ready to be replaced. It's a 2-ply bull leather piece, made for carrying fairly heavy loads without folding or sagging. Some in this thread have said this belt is soft, so I'm concerned that it won't suit my purposes. Not looking for any anti-gun comments by asking this question. I'm really hoping that Ryan Popov will be the only one to answer my question.
Thanks much, Ryan. Not positive I can swing it this go-around (already bought a knife I didn't check with the wife about beforehand), but hoping to see this drop (or one similar) again soon if I can't. Appreciate the quick reply.
BlueTomThe belt is very soft and feels supple, but is not rigid enough for carrying a handgun. Also, the buckle is retained by rivets, not screws, so cannot be replaced.
I finally got my belt on 5 January. At least with these the time lag is a bit understandable since they make everything to order by hand. This is hands down the highest-quality belt I have ever owned. Thick durable full-grain leather and a heavy buckle. I also enjoyed that the company included leather care instructions on the back of their business card.
